The Below Deck franchise is known for its steamy crew hookups, and Below Deck Down Under Season 3 is no exception. When attractive crew members live in close quarters aboard a luxury yacht, sparks often fly. This season, returning deckhand Harry Van Vliet and new stew Brianna “Bri” Duffield find themselves in a boatmance early on.
While Bri may have hoped for things to move a bit faster with Harry, their relationship continues to develop as the season progresses. However, as the reality TV show is nearing its end, what happened to Bri and Harry when they departed the Katina?
Below Deck Down Under Season 3 Sees A Boatmance Between Brianna “Bri” Duffield And Harry Van Vliet
Below Deck Down Under Season 3 sees romance brewing aboard the Katina between deckhand Harry Van Vliet and stewardess Brianna “Bri” Duffield. The two began a boatmance early on in the season, with Harry unexpectedly planting a kiss on Bri during the crew’s night out in Episode 3. In a confessional, Harry gives two thumbs up and is proud that he made a move on Bri. Meanwhile, Bri shares in her own interview, “I didn’t know Harry had game.”
The move completely caught the rest of the crew off guard. In fact, now-dismissed bosun Wihan du Toit even seemed a bit jealous that Harry made the first move, confessing, “She does not belong with that man.” Still, most of the crew was thrilled to see Harry stepping up his game.
In Episode 4, viewers watched their relationship progress after Harry asked Bri on a date off the boat. The two had a sweet date at an ice-cream shop and talked about their feelings for one another, with Harry even feeding Bri some ice cream from his spoon.
“Harry’s energy is just so nice and caring. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. I really haven’t felt giddy since my ex. He just makes me feel so special,” Bri gushed in a confessional.
In the following episode, Harry opens up about his feelings for model Bri but admits he’s hesitant to move too quickly—having learned from experience last season that rushing things during charter isn’t always the best idea.
“I’ve never dated a model, let alone a runway model. Last charter season, I opened the gates way too early, too fast. And, I embarrassed myself. I definitely like Bri a lot, so this charter season I’m taking it slow. I’m playing it cool, I’m holding my cards close to my chest,” Harry said in a confessional.
But, things might have been moving too slow for Bri, who questioned their relationship in Episode 6.
Bri Questioned Her Relationship With Harry After Feeling Like It Was Moving Too Slow
While it came across as sweet that Harry wanted to take things slow with Bri, it might have been just too slow for the stew. By Episode 6, Bri questioned if Harry still liked her.
“He confuses me. I mean we just hold hands, have a little smooch and that’s it. Something hot and steamy would be nice,” she shared in a confessional. Later in the episode, it becomes clear that Harry and Bri have differing views on the pace of their relationship—Harry is content with how their boatmance is progressing, while Bri finds herself struggling with it.
“We go on a date, and we don’t discuss anything after that,” she says. “I hate the land of uncertainty.”
Meanwhile, things only seemed to be going downhill when Harry turned down an opportunity to spend the night with her in a guest cabin after sharing a steamy kiss. Harry told Wihan that it was “too soon” for him and Bri to spend the night together. Bri revealed that it was “so annoying” that things weren’t progressing faster than she had thought they would.
“I don’t f******* get it. I feel like I’ve laid all my cards out there with Harry. But, if Harry’s not gonna make a move, I see this fading out.”
Despite a small lack of communication between them, they carry on a boatmance, with a lot of help from Chief Stew Lara Rigby, who tells Harry he needs to get the ball rolling if he wants to keep Bri interested. By Episode 9, Lara helps Harry set up a guest cabin for him and Bri to “snuggle.”
In an interview with Deadline, Harry admitted that he “had no idea that she thought I wasn’t doing enough.” He added, “I needed to be clearer with Bri about where I stood regarding our connection.”
He even teased that fans would see “a lot more” between him and Bri before the charter season ends: “There’s definitely a lot more that’s going to happen [laughs]. You just have to wait and see.”
Are Harry And Bri Dating After The Charter Season Ended?
Season 3 of Below Deck Down Under is still underway, but fans have so far found Bri and Harry’s romance endearing. Many hope that they may have the same outcome as Below Deck Med’s Nathan Gallagher and Gael Cameron, whose Season 9 boatmance is still going strong today. (Nathan and Gael are expecting their first child!)
However, when Harry appeared as a guest on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in March, he revealed that he was very much single. “Yeah, I’m single,” he told he host, adding that he was “on the prowl.”

When Bri made her first appearance on WWHL in April, she didn’t confirm or deny her status with Harry seemingly not wanting to spoil the end of Season 3. But, she surprisingly admitted that she had “been living in Australia since November,” which is where Harry is from.
“Harry and I are very, very close. We talk often, but you’re gonna have to wait and ’til the season ends to see how this escalates.”
When Andy asked Bri, “Who had more hope that the boatmance would carry over to land?” She replied that she did. She added that it was actually Harry who struggled with committing to a relationship—and even confessed she believed she liked him more than he liked her.
