Bethenny Frankel’s ‘bittersweet’ reaction to Bravo taking ‘RHONY’ off the air: ‘End of an era’

Bethenny Frankel is keeping it real about “The Real Housewives of New York City” being taken off the air.

The Bravo series alum reacted to the “bittersweet” news, which was exclusively reported by Page Six, calling it a “poetic” conclusion to the long-running franchise.

“New York City was my playground and ‘The Real Housewives of New York City’ has been canceled. It’s poetic. It is bittersweet,” a fresh-faced Frankel said in a Friday TikTok. “It is the end of an era, for me personally, and for that show which was an alchemy of disaster.”

“It was a flawed group of women in a flawed city authentically being ourselves — unhinged, unmatched, shockwaves through the real socialite community in New York and the media.”

But the show ultimately failed because “the powers that be pandered to society and tried to fit 25 pounds in a five pound bag,” Frankel said.

“And if you try to please everybody, you please nobody.”

Frankel went on to claim that the network “cast this glossy, curated version of what they thought people wanted New York City to be,” referencing the rebooted show’s cast, which included J.Crew fashion guru Jenna Lyons, Sai De Silva, Ubah Hassan, Erin Lichy, Jessel Taank and Brynn Whitfield.

The Skinny Girl margarita founder insinuated that the move was a mistake on Bravo’s part as she compared the new ladies to her season’s “group of friends that live in New York City being ridiculous, crazy, imperfect, making mistakes, lying, cheating, stealing, copying and berating.”

“People loved it because no matter what, it was real. It was the realest that genre can be,” she said, before closing, “Bye, New York. You will be missed.”

While Bravo has decided to take the flagship show off the air, we were also told the network hopes to potentially revive it (again) at some point in the future.

“We’re trying to figure that show out,” an insider told us. “We want to figure it out. We think there’s still life in it.”

Though, fans shouldn’t hold their breath. The source also warned that other shows have been put on pause for several years before being revived — “The Real Housewives of Miami,” which was canceled in 2013, didn’t return until 2021.

While network execs do expect it to make a comeback, the cast will likely get another big shakeup.

Frankel was an original cast member on the series, which premiered in 2008, alongside co-stars Luann de Lesseps, Jill Zarin, Ramona Singer and Alex McCord.

Frankel, 54, is saying a dual goodbye as she also revealed last month that she’s trading in New York’s city streets for the warmer weather in Florida.

After previously announcing her exit for “personal and professional reasons,” Frankel shared the real reason she chose to move was because she and her daughter, Bryn, were “drowning” in their previous home.

“It was just the two of us,” she said, referring to her child, whom she shares with her ex-husband Jason Hoppy.

“Within five weeks, [we] had sold and bought a home in both places. We’ll keep this apartment, but I sold my home and bought a house in Florida,” the 54-year-old said.
