Billy Ray Cyrus is finally sharing his unconventional engagement story, two months after he and Firerose sparked rumors.
The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer, 61, proposed in August, with his Aussie fiancée, 34, telling People on Wednesday that Cyrus did not get down on one knee or present her with a ring.
“Billy looked at me and said, ‘Do you, do you wanna marry me?’” Firerose recalled. “And I was just like, ‘Of course I do. I love you.’
“He said, ‘I love you. I wanna make this official. I wanna be with you forever,’” the bride-to-be continued.
Firerose, whose real name is Johanna Rosie Hodges, subsequently designed her own ring, with Page Six reporting in October that the 5-carat round diamond could be worth $220,000.
Cyrus’ proposal came just four months after his wife of 28 years, Tish Cyrus, filed for divorce from him for the third time.
The “Hannah Montana” alum confirmed to People that the divorce has since been finalized, calling it a “long time coming” and telling the magazine that “everybody’s turning the page.”
He explained, “It’s been a lot, but everyone knew that it was time for a change.”

Firerose, meanwhile, clarified that she was a “solid” friend to the Grammy winner during this time.
“Billy confided in me a lot of what was going on in his life,” she noted. “I was just the best friend I could possibly be, supporting him.”
Billy Ray was the one to ask Firerose to be more than friends after “a lot of prayer” while moving on from Tish, 55, with whom he shares five children.
“When we began sharing music, it just evolved more into, as musical soulmates, to soulmates, happy, pure love that to me, I didn’t know could exist,” he gushed.
“Again, we’re musicians, first and foremost, both of us. And we found this harmony, and this rhythm, this melody to life.”
The former Disney Channel star cried discussing their relationship, saying, “Finding Firerose and getting engaged and then losing my mom [a few weeks later] — see? The teeter-totter will not stay in the middle.”
He said that “having somebody to ride it out with” is giving his life more “balance.”
The couple sparked engagement rumors when Firerose rocked a ring on that finger in a September social media upload, giving another glimpse of the sparkler the following month.
