Brad Pitt’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt, has sadly died at the age of 84. According to sources close to the family, Jane passed away within the past couple of days. A heartfelt post shared on Instagram by a family member confirmed the heartbreaking news. The former school counsellor was remembered as “love in its purest form” by her heartbroken granddaughter. Brad Pitt’s niece Sydney Pitt broke the news in an emotional Instagram post shared on Wednesday (August 6).
“My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet, but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier,” she wrote in the caption. Sydney, the daughter of Brad’s brother Doug Pitt, said that Jane Etta “could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat. There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it.”
“If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart. She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked.
“She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things.”
She went on, adding: “She made up the silliest games just to make us laugh, and she believed in fairness, in putting others first, and doing good simply because it was the right thing to do.
“‘I don’t know how we move forward without her. But I know she’s still here in every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form.”
The F1 actor, 61, shared a deep bond with his mother, who was known as the heart of the Pitt family — even organising a massive family gathering just five years ago.
Jane largely stayed out of the public eye, though she occasionally appeared on the red carpet alongside Brad and her husband, William.
She accompanied him to several major events over the years, including the 2007 Golden Globes and the Academy Awards, where she was spotted chatting warmly with other A-listers.
Even in tough times, Jane remained a pillar of strength. After Brad’s highly publicised divorce from Angelina Jolie in 2016, she was said to be a key source of comfort.
Jane Etta raised Brad and his two siblings in Oklahoma and Missouri alongside her husband William Alvin, who owned a trucking company.
Jane was often seen visiting his Los Feliz home before it was sold, and the actor skipped several awards events in 2019 to spend time with her during a reported health scare.
