Britney Spears has a clear choice for the lead role in her eagerly anticipated biopic.
According to a source speaking with In Touch, the 44-year-old pop icon is keen on having Natalie Portman play her in the film adaptation of her best-selling memoir, The Woman in Me. The book delves deeply into Spears’ life, particularly her long-standing conservatorship battle.
“Natalie is the right age to tell this story,” the source explains, referring to the Oscar-winning actress, also 44. “Their long-standing friendship gives Britney the confidence that Natalie will portray her truthfully.”
Universal Pictures has secured the rights to adapt Spears’ memoir into a film slated for release in 2024, with Wicked director Jon M. Chu at the helm. However, as previously noted by In Touch, the production schedule remains undisclosed.
“Natalie remains the top choice, and both she and her team are open to the possibility of her involvement,” the source adds. “The studio, however, appears to be waiting to gauge the success of Michael before moving forward.”

The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, starring the King of Pop’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, is set to hit theaters on Friday, April 24.
“The recent financial failures of the Amy Winehouse and Bruce Springsteen biopics gave the studio pause,” the source explains. “They just need to see evidence that there’s still life in the genre and audiences are still willing to show up in big numbers to see these kinds of movies.”
Adds the source: “If Michael is the hit people think it will be, things will move forward on the Britney move quickly.”
