Bruce Willis is reportedly unaware of his dementia diagnosis, according to recent reports. The Hollywood icon, best known for his role in “Die Hard,” was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023. However, his wife, Emma Heming Willis, revealed that Bruce has not fully grasped the reality of his condition, and she finds solace in his unawareness.
Emma shared her thoughts, saying, “Bruce never really made the connection. It’s both a blessing and a curse, but I’m truly glad he remains unaware of his diagnosis.” She discussed this during her appearance on the “Conversations with Cam” podcast, explaining, “The illness affects the brain in such a way that those suffering from it may not recognize what’s happening. It’s not denial but rather a condition known as anosognosia, where the brain changes and they perceive it as normal.”
Despite the progression of his condition, the “Looper” star remains “very much present in his body,” and his family has adjusted to the changes alongside him.
Emma elaborated, “We’ve grown with him through this journey. We’ve adapted in ways that allow him to maintain a meaningful connection with me and our children. While it differs from typical interactions, it’s a beautiful and significant bond. It’s just different, and we’ve learned to adapt.”
In November, Bruce’s eldest daughter, Rumer Willis, whom he shares with ex-wife Demi Moore, revealed that her father sometimes struggles to recognize her. Nevertheless, she remains “grateful” for the connection they continue to share.
Rumer – who is mother to two-year-old Louetta with former partner Derek Richard Thomas – said in an Instagram Stories video: “I’m so happy and grateful that I still get to go and hug him.
“I’m so grateful that when I go over there, and I give him a hug, whether he recognises me or not, that he can feel the love I’ve given him, and I can feel it back from him. That I still see a spark of him, and he can feel the love that I’m giving. So that feels really nice.
“I just feel grateful that I get to go over there with Louetta and we get to spend time with him, and I get to feel the love that he has for me, and that I can love him and be with him.”
