Brynn Whitfield opened up about the dramatic finale of The Real Housewives of New York City, and her messy feud with Ubah Hassan, during an interview on Wednesday.

While also dishing on her fertility journey, the recently taped finale episodes, and her future on the Bravo reality series, Brynn, 38, slammed Ubah’s offensive suggestion about her employment, reacted to what the cast had to say about her feud with Ubah, 41, and offered an update on where she stands with the women.

As RHONY fans saw on Tuesday night’s finale, Brynn was set off by Ubah’s statement that she might have slept with someone to get on the show, noting that it was extremely insensitive, considering her past sexual assault. But according to Ubah, she knew nothing of Brynn’s past. And ultimately, Brynn admitted that it was possible Ubah failed to “clock it” amid a “hysterical” conversation.

“It’s not right to assume that everyone remembers everything that you say all the time and then hold them accountable for that … but when someone’s screaming into the phone, the other person might not necessarily hear them. At that point, she was problem-solving and being a great friend, saying, ‘OK, do you need me to get a car to come and get you?’ as I’m rambling on,” Brynn explained to Rolling Stone on January 22..

Still, when Ubah wanted to apologize, she wasn’t having it.

“I get how, as a viewer, it makes sense that you want to get to closure but in real life, I need time to process if I’m truly offended or hurt,” she shared. “If I get that hurt, I’ll just go into defense mode, and my walls go up immediately … I just wasn’t open to it at the time.”

After facing the intense drama amid the cast’s girls’ trip to Puerto Rico, Brynn said she was further hurt when she found out that some of her castmates felt she was intentionally lying about Ubah.

“It’s disgusting that I’m talking about two things that I would hope that no woman or person would have to experience — suicide and sexual assault — and everyone’s like, ‘Brynn, we feel taken advantage of,’” Brynn said in response. “I wasn’t shown much [respect]. These are difficult, serious things we’re talking about. That’s how it felt for me the whole season, like I was always being attacked.”

“This is my life, and these are serious, traumatic subjects that are turning into she said-she said fodder. I don’t understand why I’m not being met with grace,” she added.

Following her run-in with Ubah, Brynn decided to leave Puerto Rico early, and some of the ladies were taken aback by the casual demeanor she had before she did.

“I was mortified. In the moment, I’m very much like, ‘Everything’s fine,’ and I can make a joke or distract from something, but I was like, ‘Just get me out of here,’” Brynn explained.

Once she arrived back home, Brynn felt as if she wasn’t allowed the “luxury of feeling [her] feelings.”

“I wish that someone would’ve asked me, ‘Hey, let’s calmly sit down and listen to what you have to say,’” she reasoned. “That would have felt really nice, I think, to have that. I didn’t get that in Puerto Rico. I certainly didn’t get it afterwards. More so, it’s been like I’m the bad guy.”

Although she left Puerto Rico on the outs with much of the cast, Brynn felt better after the reunion.

“Are we in a position where everything is fixed and perfect? No, not remotely. But at least we’re now, maybe hopefully at step one,” she stated.

According to Brynn, she’s “cool” with Jenna Lyons, 56, Raquel Chevremont, 53, and Erin Lichy, 37, who she just texted “the other day.”

“I think [Sai De Silva] and I still have stuff to work on. I miss my friendship with Sai a lot. And then with [Jessel Taank] I didn’t realize, but I should have realized, I said something that upset her, so I need to work on my friendship with Jessel,” she continued.

As for Ubah, Brynn admitted, “What’s done is done.”

“Ubah’s a great person. She has a heart of gold. I think she loses her temper, but she has the most beautiful heart and at the end of the day I know I’m also a good person, so I feel like we will get back. But it takes time to repair,” she noted.

Moving on to the criticism the reboot has gotten since its recasting ahead of season 14, Brynn said that she believes fans have to “trust that the Bravo gods know what they’re doing” and added that she and her co-stars “just have to be [themselves]” as they prepare for their potential 16th season.

“You’re never guaranteed,” Brynn said of her possible return. “But I feel like with this show, it’s not our show or my show. It’s a little bit of the women who came before us and whoever comes after us. It sounds cheesy but I just think we’re the temporary guardians of this thing and you want to make New York proud.”

Also during the interview, Brynn addressed her fertility journey, which she opened up about on the show.

“I know I’m ready to be a parent. I can financially, physically do it … Egg freezing was important to me because it was the first step of feeling like I was doing something about it,” she stated.

The Real Housewives of New York City season 15 reunion begins next Tuesday, January 28, at 9/8c on Bravo.
