Caitríona Balfe, star of Outlander, has given fans a glimpse into the eighth and final season of the popular Starz series. In a charming video posted on the official Outlander Instagram account, the 45 year old Irish actress was seen in conversation with her young co-star Florrie May Wilkinson, who plays Fanny Pocock, reports the Scottish Daily Express.

The child star expressed her enjoyment of filming season seven, saying: “I have loved making season seven so much.”

She also praised Balfe for her guidance, stating: “It was such a good opportunity, and being with Caitríona makes it all better because I get to meet her and she gives really good tips and advice.”

When asked about the advice, Wilkinson revealed: “So you taught me how to be good at acting and taught me how to cry.”

However, the Belfast and Le Mans ’66 actress modestly responded: “You did it all on your own. You were good.”

Balfe, who portrays Claire Fraser, hinted at what’s to come in the final season, suggesting that her character is excited for Wilkinson’s character to live with her and potentially become an apprentice. She teased: “You know, she will be getting into the surgery. We’ll have you doing lots of things.”

Balfe playfully added: “We can make potions. You and I can talk about maybe we’ll put a spell on Jamie, which means he’ll just give us all his money and then I don’t know, we’ll go do something really fun with it.”

Wilkinson spoke warmly of the kindness shown by Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire, saying: “I think Fanny would be very grateful that they’d taken her in because she’s been lonely.”

Balfe shared insights about Fanny adapting to her new home on the Ridge: “It might take her sometime to get used to everyone.”

She continued: “But then we’ll be like a big, happy family.

“Welcome to the family,” Balfe expressed warmly as she embraced her fellow actor.

The book Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon reveals that in the Outlander universe, Fanny becomes part of Jamie and Claire’s family, sharing their lives as they establish their homestead on the Ridge.

There, Fanny not only adjusts but also begins to foster connections with peers such as Germain Fraser (played by Robin Scott) and Jemmy MacKenzie (portrayed by Blake Johnston-Miller), who are near her own age.

Furthermore, Fanny embarks on a journey of discovery with Claire, immersing herself in the art of healing, which paves the way for a stabilised existence unlike her past tribulations.

As season seven drew to a close, the narrative hinted at a poignant connection between Claire and Fanny, suggesting that Fanny’s mother might be Claire’s supposedly stillborn daughter, Faith—a twist that veered away from the storyline of the novel.

This pivotal theme is set to be delved into deeper in the concluding season, potentially placing Fanny at the heart of this adaptation’s unique narrative arc.

Indeed, Fanny may come to represent an additional daughter figure in Jamie and Claire’s life, symbolically filling the void left by Faith’s absence.
