Candiace Dillard Bassett has certainly made waves with her social media activity.
The Real Housewives of Potomac personality, aged 39, opened up about facing significant fines due to her history of “liking” comments on the platform X. She shared this revelation on the “Undomesticated” podcast, aired on a Wednesday, March 4 episode.
During a conversation centered around Lisa Rinna‘s book, You Better Believe I’m Gonna Talk About It, Dillard Bassett brought up an incident where her Traitors costar incurred a $50,000 penalty from NBC for “breach of contract.”
According to Dillard Bassett, Rinna, who is 62, faced this fine for making online statements that allegedly contradicted her contractual obligations.
“I remember I texted her and I was like, ‘I feel really seen by that.’ I always kinda felt like I was alone in that,” Dillard Bassett shared. “I, too, have been fined. Not quite $50,000,” she added. “Maybe somewhere around $35,000.”
When asked what she was fined for, Dillard Bassett shared, “There are rules. There are rules that come into play when it matters. There was definitely a paralegal or somebody in business whose job it was just to watch my Twitter. And this was back when you could see people’s ‘likes.’ And I would ‘like’ s***.” She quipped, “If something sat well in my spirit, boop. Like, like, like. I was liking left, right and center. And that went against the rule.”
She added, “I would say things — but it was mostly me affirming things that were being said.”
Dillard Bassett went on to say that she wasn’t even told when she was fined and found out after she received a check that was lower than she expected. “They wouldn’t even tell me. I would just get my money and be like, ‘This looks a little short.’ And then I’d call and [they would say], ‘Yeah, we took some of it,’” she laughed. “Thanks for telling me!”
Dillard Bassett also shared that she didn’t know of any other Housewives who were fined for their social media presence, so she felt especially “seen” by Rinna’s revelation.
“I was asked not to use certain adjectives to describe people,” she added.
Rinna who starred alongside Dillard Bassett as a Traitor on season 4 of the Peacock series, opened up about being fined $50,000 by Bravo in her book, which was released last month.
As she recalled an alleged pre-planned fight between Brandi Glanville and Eileen Davidson, she claimed that she was fined for opening up about her “impulsive opinions” on social media.
“I’ve been known as a truth teller. I can’t help it. Why be anything else?” she wrote. “I’ve often said my lips have a career of their own, but it’s the words that come out of them that have gained me fans all over the world and turned friends into enemies.”
Rinna continued, “I’ve literally been fined $50,000 by Bravo for opening my mouth and unleashing impulsive opinions on Instagram. That’s one reason why, after eight years clawing my way to the top of RHOBH, I decided to leave the show.” Rinna starred on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills from 2014 through 2023, when she left after filming season 12.
