Former Countdown star Carol Vorderman lashed out at American President Donald Trump as she urged Brits “not to take democracy for granted”. Posting to Instagram, she shared a news article which suggested that Trump did not want peace in Russia.

Captioning the snap of the article, Carol wrote: “JUST NOW After the nonsense talk about peace in Ukraine, Putin bombed the old nuclear plant at Chernobyl this morning. This is what happens when you give power to corrupted bullies.”

She continued: “‘Emperor’ Trump bringing Europe closer to all out war. You’ve only known peace time in the UK while you’ve been alive….please DO NOT TAKE DEMOCRACY FOR GRANTED.

“For it may just be a blip… Wanna live under fascism? Then don’t vote.

“Want freedoms for yourself and your children? Then register to vote AND VOTE IN ALL ELECTIONS. Fascism sneaks through when people can’t be a***d…”

Fans commented saying that it is “convenient”. One wrote: “Bloody convenient isn’t it ? I mean Trump says no more money, then this happens, by Putin apparently.”

Another added: “This seems very suspiciously timed though,” while a third said: “I’ve made a promise never to vote again. I have watched Labour completely go against promise after promise made in the build up to the election.

“I will have to accept I am Thatchers child… society doesn’t exist, pull the ladder up on everyone who doesn’t matter to you. Sad but I’ve aged trying to do the right thing.”

Others criticised Carol and her views, with one saying: “Best keep quiet Carol. Look at the damage you’ve done already with your political meddling!” While another posted: “Spreading lies Carol.”

Earlier this week, the TV presenter was hit with backlash after she branded UK supporters of Donald Trump “eejits”. The 64-year-old quoted a headline on her X page, writing: “Trump says UK ‘out of line’ and threatens to expand tariffs to Europe as trade war fears grow.”

Carol added: “Right wing Trump fans here seem to want the UK to fail and to damage their own people …..eejits….”

The social media post was inundated with criticism as the former Countdown presenter was called out for the remark.
