This Morning’s Cat Deeley, who is now a ambassador for beauty brand Ella & Jo, has opened up on her ugly duckling moments in her younger years. Although fans might find it hard to believe now, looking at her polished, ageless and ultra-glamorous appearance, she explained that she’s had “so many beauty disasters” in the past.

“I mean, I’ve had a terrible perm, I had one eyebrow, I then had two very thin eyebrows, I even] had really short hair that looked like a giant mushroom!” she cringed. Adding that she’s been through the gauntlet with every hair colour from red to dark to blonde, her past experiences have helped her settle into the look that’s right for her.

“There is nothing I haven’t done, but [for] women [to feel] very comfortable in their own skin, I think you have to kind of go through that to work out what doesn’t work for you!” she exclaimed. Cat added that she’s learnt over the years that the best definition of a beautiful woman is “when [someone] feels comfortable in her own skin”.

“I think then she is incredibly beautiful and incredibly charismatic. When you feel good, you look good too,” she mused. The ITV star continued: “The best beauty tip is basically ‘less is more’. I think women look more beautiful with actually less makeup.”

However, she warned: “That does mean that you have to really take care of your skin, you have to eat a good diet, and you have to exercise and drink water.” So what are Cat’s beauty secrets?

She’s revealed the top products that boost her confidence, including one that’s so good that even her husband hasn’t been able to resist thieving it.

“I always like to carry the Hyaluronic Skin Mist from Ella & Jo, it’s a brilliant product that just freshens up your makeup during the day and plumps and nourishes your skin at the same time – it really gives you a glow!” she enthused.

Cat, whose career highlights include being invited to the White House to meet Barack Obama and family, and interview his wife Michelle, is also expanding her wellness ambitions with yoga and infrared saunas.

The sentimental star added: “I feel my most beautiful when I’m probably not at my most beautiful, but to me, I feel it. It would be as the sun is starting to set on the beach after spending the day with my boys [husband Patrick and son James] in the sunshine.”
