When it comes to comedy, sometimes the more outrageous the better. That is exactly what you get in Cameron Diaz’s movie from the ’90s, There’s Something About Mary. Some may not see it for its gross-out humor and cringe-worthy moments, instead finding it offensive, but the film was a huge hit in its time and remains beloved by many today.

Bill Murray was the first to be mentioned to play the character Healy. In the long run, though, Peter and Bobby Farrelly deemed him too advanced in age to play the part. Vince Vaughn and Cuba Gooding Jr. were also considered, but Matt Dillon ultimately secured the part.
Brett Favre made a notable appearance as himself in There’s Something About Mary. The Farrellys are not Green Bay Packers fans, however; they are New England natives with a fondness for Boston sports teams. Predictably, they initially wanted Drew Bledsoe, quarterback of the New England Patriots at the time, to star in the film, but Bledsoe was unable to do so due to injury. While Steve Young was also approached for the role, he declined because of its content.
As a result, the Farrellys decided to cast Brett Favre, who was a rising star at the time. Despite their lack of enthusiasm for the Packers, they were impressed with Favre’s charisma and ability to deliver comedic lines. In the end, his cameo proved to be one of the most memorable moments in the film.

Chris Farley Was Supposed To Be In There’s Something About Mary
