Meghan Markle slammed for attending Balenciaga fashion show after brand’s ad scandal: ‘The duchess of hypocrisy’

Fans slammed Meghan Markle for attending a Balenciaga fashion show after the brand was “canceled” for using children in a creepy ad.

On Saturday, the Duchess of Sussex made her Paris Fashion Week debut in a white, long-sleeved button-down tunic with a flowing cape and matching slacks.

A spokesperson for Markle said she attended the event to support pal Pierpaolo Piccioli, who became Creative Director for the House in July.

While the “Suits” alum, 44, was lauded for how amazing she looked, other fans questioned why the Netflix star would support a brand that has been involved in so much controversy.

“The ‘duchess’ of hypocrisy: a lady who claims to defend the interests of children, going to a fashion show that ran a disgusting campaign with children,” wrote one user on Instagram.

“Why on earth would she go to a Balenciaga show? How could any mother support that brand?” added another.

“Irony a cancelled woman turns up for a cancelled brand. What is a mother thinking attending a fashion show of a house which used child models posing with fetish-themed teddy bears?” claimed a third person.

“Oh the brand that suxualized [sic] children…. That’s nice @meghan,” commented a fourth netizen.

“Balenciaga with their child p*rn and abuse and pedophilia, shows what Meghan really cares about.. herself and whoever will give her a spotlight 🤷🏽‍♀️,” said another Instagram user.

“Miss All About the Children showing up at a Balenciaga show. How gross 🤢,” wrote another fan.

Page Six has reached out to Markle’s reps for comment but did not immediately hear back.

Balenciaga came under fire in 2022 for two different campaigns, one of which featured children holding teddy bears that were outfitted in bondage-style leather outfits.

While backlash was swift, the fashion house addressed the controversy and apologized for the nature of the shoot.

That November, Balenciaga filed a $25 million lawsuit against the producers of the ad campaign. However, the following month, the company dropped the suit.

Several stars have continued to support Balenciaga after the controversy, including Kim Kardashian, who returned to wearing the designer clothing in April 2023.
