In 2010, David and Victoria Beckham famously axed 14 of their staff members at their multiple homes after being told they were wasting money. After all, they hire high-end housekeepers. One of them is even a former employee at Buckingham Palace.
But in 2005, the influential couple laid off one of their nannies, Abbie Gibson for much more personal reasons — leaking rumors about her employers’ marriage. The Beckhams also filed a lawsuit against her.

Gibson was fired after she was quoted in a seven-page report in News of the World. She claimed to have witnessed the Beckhams fighting a lot. “One night I woke and heard them arguing on the landing and heard David call Victoria a [expletive deleted] ” she told the publication, adding that the Spice Girls alum had confided in her at one point.
“The next day, I asked Victoria if she was alright,” she continued. “She started crying and said, ‘I don’t know what to do. He is on about splitting up, he told me, ‘I want to split.’ I am walking on eggshells. I have to make sure I don’t trigger another argument. I have asked him to stay with me until the baby is born. I think things are slipping away from me.'”
Back then, it was reported that Gibson had quit a month before the Beckhams sued her for breach of confidence. David later described the violation of trust as “amazing” and “unbelievable.” Talking to reporters in Madrid where he was playing for Real Madrid, he said: “When you invite people into your home to look after your children…you need to be able to trust them.”
He also clarified that he wasn’t leaving Victoria. “What I will say, though, is that the reason I keep my mind on football is that me and my wife are happy,” he said. “We are normal people, although people might not think that. Of course, we have arguments like everybody, but, at the end of the day, I know that I love my wife.”

Through the years, the Beckhams have dealt with a number of divorce rumors. In 2003, David was photographed with a mystery woman in a Madrid nightclub. Later, she was identified as his assistant, Rebecca Loos whose brother John Charles had told Daily Mail at that time: “She has confirmed to me she had an affair with David.”
The tattoed footballer denied it, saying that he’s “very happily married” and that he has “a wonderful wife and two very special kids.” He added that “there is nothing any third party can do to change these facts.”
In 2018, the couple was rumored to be splitting up again. At that time, an insider slammed the gossip but alluded to some issues. “Over the years, Victoria has fought hard for her marriage, and for David,” the source told People. “She never gave up when someone else might have.” That year, the singer-turned-fashion designer also opened up about trying her “hardest” to balance her career and her marriage to David.
“I try really, really hard. I try hardest to be the best mother,” she said at the 2018 Forbes Women’s Summit in New York City. “I am trying to be the best wife and the best professional. When I get home I try to put the phone down and spend time with the children and spend time with David.” In July 2022, the two marked their 23rd anniversary by going on a trip all over Europe — looking more in love than ever.

In May 2022, Victoria told Grazia that she and David have made it this long because they have “so much respect” for one another. She also went on to praise her husband for being “supportive” of her. “David is an incredible dad, and husband, and he’s very supportive of my work. We are really good partners,” she gushed.
The retired singer also reminisced about David “holding Brooklyn in his little purple cowboy hat and outfit at our wedding” while talking about their firstborn’s recent wedding to Nicola Peltz. “It’s a big deal, your child getting married. I was very emotional. David’s speech was beautiful,” she said of the ceremony, adding that both Brooklyn and Nicole grew up with parents who have been married for “a long time.”
