David Muir may be perfectly at ease under the studio lights, but away from the cameras, he has long drawn a firm line around his private world. The “ABC World News Tonight” anchor is especially guarded when it comes to his dating history, offering no public commentary on romance despite decades in the spotlight. Still, that silence has not stopped speculation from following one of television news’ most recognizable figures.
Over the years, Muir has been the subject of recurring rumors about his love life, none of which he has publicly confirmed or denied. More recently, social media exchanges in 2026 helped fuel chatter linking him to CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins. Long before those whispers, Muir was connected to former Jezebel deputy editor Kate Dries after she appeared to joke about a relationship in a 2015 article responding to reports that colleagues had allegedly nicknamed him “anchor monster.” “I’ve just learned — in a public forum, no less — that my boyfriend, ABC News anchor David Muir, is a, quote unquote, monster,” Dries wrote.
Dries’ post appeared to be written with a satirical edge, and she did not publicly revisit the supposed relationship afterward. That same year, Muir was also rumored to be involved with fellow ABC journalist Gio Benitez after photos of them circulated online. Those claims faded after Benitez became engaged to Tommy DiDario that September. In 2022, another round of speculation tied Muir to a mystery man identified only as Sean, but, true to form, Muir never addressed that rumor either. Based on what is publicly known, Muir appears to be single and unfazed by the ongoing curiosity.

Does David Muir even have time to date?
Muir’s reluctance to discuss his personal life may not be the only reason details about his dating history remain scarce. His demanding schedule could also leave little room for romance. In 2014, he told Syracuse.com that his workload was so intense he once had to give a dog to his sister after only a week. “I often work seven days a week. I’m not looking for a pat on the back because I love what I do,” he said.
The real love of his life just might be his family. David has a close bond with the Muir bunch, including his parents and his sister, Becky. An event calls for a date? That’s not a problem. In 2016, David took his mother, Pat Mills, to the White House State Dinner, using the opportunity to gush about their relationship on his socials. “A fancy state dinner once — but I prefer her meatballs and sauce. Love you Mom!” he captioned a 2023 Mother’s Day Instagram post that featured a photo from the event.
David is also close with his sister and her kids, who sometimes feature on his Instagram. “My squad left. Sent the nieces and nephew back to school,” he captioned a 2017 selfie of the four together. Even now that David is in his 50s, he still has a steadfast companion in Becky. In the Summer of ’26, the journalist and Becky went on a dreamy vacation to Italy together. David left fans swooning with a series of snapshots from their time in the Mediterranean, some of which featured his sister. “Heart full and still smiling,” he wrote in the caption.
