According to People, the couple first talked at a party when she was 25 and he was 42. In contrast, Ashley Olsen’s husband Louis Eisner is actually younger than the Olsen twins. Eisner is 34 and Ashley and Mary-Kate are 36.
Although Mary-Kate’s family members haven’t spoken to the public about what they thought about Sarkozy being in his 40s when Mary-Kate was still mid-20s, a source did say something in 2012, the same year that the couple began dating.

Mary-Kate And Ashley Olsen Continue To Have A Tight Sisterly Bond
I-D magazine interviewed the Olsen Twins when The Row turned 15 in 2021 and while they kept most of the focus on their fashion careers, they did talk about how much they love collaborating, which suggests that they are still as close as they have ever been.
Ashley Olsen said, “We like working together and we like having that dialogue. I think it helps harden your ideas to be able to hear them out loud, to speak something through.”
She continued to I-D, “But I think what’s great is that we have each other to lean on. And managing design is one thing and then also running the business side is another and I think you have a lot of decisions to make. I mean, when you put those two things together, there’s a lot of decisions to make on a daily basis, so I think we feel fortunate that we can have that dialogue and divide and conquer a bit.”
While the Olsen twins don’t comment publicly on each other’s love lives, they do seem to support each other, and it’s likely that they also have remained close because they work together and see each other often.
Why Did Mary-Kate Olsen And Oliver Sarkozy Break Up?
It doesn’t seem like Mary-Kate Olsen minded the age difference between her and Olivier Sarkozy as they were married for five years. According to Page Six, the couple was living in a Bridgehampton house, and when the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, he wanted Charlotte Bernard, his ex-wife, to live in that home, too. Sarkozy’s mother and the two kids, Margot and Julian, he shares with Bernard moved in, too.
Page Six noted that the house was definitely big enough for all of those people, as it is 4,000 square feet and has five bedrooms. And while his instinct was to keep his family safe from the virus during a difficult time and global health crisis, this is when Mary-Kate knew that her marriage was over.
While no one will know the reason why the couple got divorced, Page Six shared that a source said that the relationship just wasn’t working anymore. According to The New York Post, the couple lived in a townhouse in New York City, which Sarkozy purchased for $13.5 in 2014. The home hit the market in 2021 for $11.5 million. The most interesting part? They didn’t actually live there, although there were renovations.
Although Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen don’t usually talk about their love lives, Mary-Kate did share some details about her marriage to Sarkozy. This suggests that they were in a good place before the divorce as she sounded happy.
When interviewed by PORTER magazine in 2017, Mary-Kate said, “We’re lucky [working hard] comes quite naturally for us. We don’t need so much time to sit and think and ponder. But then I have a husband, two stepkids and a life; I have to go home and cook dinner. I ride horses on the weekends. You find the thing that helps you relax and if you don’t have it, you have to look for it. Or you get burned out and then you’re not productive.”
