Morgan Wallen has had his fair share of controversies over his short career. For anyone else, this would have led to a canceled career and never being heard from again. But in a shocking turn of events, not only did Wallen overcome his poor choices and mistakes, he became more popular than ever and made a fortune in doing so. So popular, in fact, that his music made its way to the top of the charts. And as a result, broke long-standing records in the process, including that of Taylor Swift.

The Last Night singer first broke onto the music scene when he competed on Season Six of The Voice. While he did not win, he made a big impression on country music executives who saw something special in Wallen. He was signed to his first record label in 2015 and began to make a name for himself.

Executives believed that the future was bright for Wallen. They also believed his talent would be lucrative for the label. As such, even when it appeared that the world may be done with the Wasted on You singer after one too many indiscretions were committed, Big Loud Records stuck by Wallen. In doing so, Wallen’s career was saved, even after a public suspension was made by the label. And as a result, Wallen is more popular than ever, dethroning those who have long-standing music records along the way.

Taylor Swift Held The Title Of Longest Number-One Album

Before Wallen came along, Swift held the record as the artist with the most weeks at number one (non-consecutive) on the Billboard 200 chart. It looked to music executives and fans alike that there was no way anyone would be breaking this record, given that Swift continues to put out new music consistently. But at some point, most records fall, and fall it did with One Thing at a Time.

Swift’s record came with the release of her album Fearless. Since debuting in 2008, no other artists had come close to being able to surpass the Red singer’s 21 weeks (non-consecutive) at the top of the charts. But with the continued success of his double album, not only did Wallen do so, he is poised to break more records still.

The Chasin’ You singer has found himself in the company of music royalty with other records he is breaking. This is because Wallen is now tied with Whitney Houston for having an album at the top of the Billboard 200 charts for 11 weeks and is only surpassed by Stevie Wonder who had an album at the top of the charts for 13 weeks, something even Wallen cannot seem to believe.

“These stats are all so humbling and being mentioned in the same sentence as Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston is something I never could have imagined,” Wallen explained.

“But I’m most grateful to everyone who listens to my music. That’s the connection that means the most to me and it’s the best compliment out there – the fact that you guys like it.”

There is no telling how much longer Wallen will be at the top of the charts with music that reveals the troubled life he has lived. There is also the possibility that Swift could regain her title with her re-releases and new music that keeps increasing her song count. But for now, love him or hate him, Wallen is the king of the Billboard charts.

Controversies Morgan Wallen Overcame After Being Canceled By Many

Over the course of the past several years, Wallen has found himself in the middle of several scandals for his behavior and comments said. With these actions, there were consequences. And these consequences made it so that in the eyes of many, the Everything I Love singer was canceled.

Wallen first made headlines for his behavior when he was kicked out of Kid Rock’s bar in Nashville. Not only was he intoxicated, but he reportedly was “kicking glass items” as well.

This incident spilled out onto the streets of Nashville where Wallen got into a fight was a passerby. As such he was arrested.

Poor choices during the pandemic landed Wallen in hot water when he was scheduled to perform on Saturday Night Live to promote Dangerous: The Double Album. But after a video of a night out partying at packed bars and kissing women surfaced, Wallen’s appearance was canceled on SNL. This, in Wallen’s own words, “affected [his] long-term goals and dreams.”

Neither of these incidents would have led to the Up Down singer being canceled. But this, in conjunction with using a racial slur when referring to a friend was enough for the public to call for Wallen to be canceled.

Satellite radio and streaming platforms pulled all of Wallen’s music. His label suspended him “indefinitely” and it looked as though Wallen’s career was over.

That is until it was not. Instead, Wallen came back with a vengeance with One Thing at a Time. Citics think they know why the album has outlasted others on the charts, despite Wallen’s behavior.

Why Fans Think Morgan Wallen’s Album Outlasted Taylor Swift’s On The Top Of The Charts

As Wallen continues to break records on the charts, critics have theories as to why this has happened. And they are none too happy about any of them.

“All it took was him getting caught saying the N-word for him to blow up,” one Reddit user said. “That’s so wild to me.”

Another user stated, “He’s been made into a martyr.”

“I don’t think it’s really comparable when he’s got 70 songs between the 2 albums,” a third Reddit user stated. “It’s easy to dominate with so many options.”

The fact that Wallen is still not only relevant but a driving force in country music is a feat unto itself. After all, any entertainer, regardless of the entertainment field that is canceled is not often heard from again.

But despite his numerous controversies, controversies that would have ended nearly anyone else’s career, Wallen is back. And not only is he back, but he is at the top of his game.
