Why Kate Middleton’s Christmas coat is a full-circle moment

Kate Middleton wrapped up 2025 in the same stylish manner she commenced it.

The 43-year-old Princess of Wales attended Christmas Day services at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, donning a brown tartan coat from Blazé Milano that holds special significance. This was the same coat she wore during her first public appearance of the year.

Back on January 14, Middleton made an unexpected visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital — the institution where she successfully underwent cancer treatment the previous year — and joyfully shared the news of her remission.

The coat she chose is an extended version of the brand’s double-breasted Lahloo Anyway blazer, featuring a tailored waist and uniquely curved pockets.

Middleton originally showcased this coat on Christmas Day in 2021 and has opted for it on numerous occasions since, including three times throughout this year.

By wearing it for both her first and last major public appearances of the year, the mother of three created a poignant bookend to a challenging but triumphant period in her life.

For Thursday’s royal procession, the Princess layered the coat over a plaid Gucci wool-twill midi skirt she’s owned since at least 2020.

She accessorized with her trusty Gianvito Rossi brown suede boots, a mocha suede DeMellier Small Hudson bag ($525), Cartier Trinity earrings ($3,850) and a Really Wild Clothing silk scarf.

The scarf is a callback to 2014, when she tied on the same piece for Christmas Day festivities.

A new addition to the look, however, was a chocolate-brown Felt Lace Percher Hat (£650, or about $879) by British milliner Juliette Botterill, featuring delicate snowflake cutouts that nodded to the frosty winter morning.

Middleton coordinated with daughter Princess Charlotte, 10, who wore a trim beige Catherine Walker coat with dark brown velvet trim. The duo walked alongside Prince William, 43, and their sons, Prince George, 12, and Prince Louis, 7, who all dressed in navy suits for the occasion.

On Christmas Eve, the Princess surprised fans with a piano duet alongside Charlotte for her “Together at Christmas” carol service broadcast.

The carol service, which took place at Westminster Abbey on Dec. 5, also featured a sweet moment from all three children, who added their handwritten names to a paper chain wrapped around the event’s Christmas tree.
