Fans of “Bridgerton” are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the latter half of the fourth season on Netflix.

According to The Mirror, the upcoming episodes promise to unveil the next chapter in the story of Benedict Bridgerton, portrayed by Luke Thompson, and Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha, following his daring proposal for her to become his mistress.

As viewers anticipate the new episodes, many have taken the opportunity to rewatch the beloved series. We’ve taken a closer look and ranked each season of “Bridgerton” from the least to the most compelling. Be advised, spoilers are on the horizon.

The forthcoming episodes will finally reveal what unfolds between Benedict Bridgerton (played by Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) following his proposal to become his mistress, reports the Mirror.

Whilst audiences wait expectantly, some have been revisiting the Netflix series. Here’s our ranking of every series of Bridgerton from weakest to strongest – and be warned, spoilers lie ahead.

Which is the finest series of Bridgerton?

5. Bridgerton series 3

Despite captivating audiences and delivering substantial drama with the revelation of Penelope Featherington as Lady Whistledown (played by Nicola Coughlan), series three’s friends-to-lovers storyline failed to truly resonate between the principal characters.

Additionally, significant attention was devoted to the wider ton, which diminished focus on the main pairing, rendering the series less powerful than it might have been.

If anything, Cressida Cowper’s (Jess Madsen) progressively elaborate puff sleeves and Mama Featherington’s (Polly Walker) bedroom advice to a confused Philippa Featherington (Harriet Cains) were standout moments of series three.

Indeed, they proved more memorable than Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope’s passionate carriage encounter set to Lord Worldwide himself, Pittbull’s Give Me Everything.

4. Bridgerton series 2

Season two featured one of Bridgerton’s most beloved pairings – Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Ashley Simone) – yet the needless love triangle involving an unsuspecting Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran) significantly dampened what was otherwise a delightful slowburn enemies-to-lovers storyline.

Bridgerton truly did Edwina a disservice, portraying her as an innocent young woman who couldn’t recognise her fiancé’s longing glances towards her elder sister. The wedding episode proved a torturous, drawn-out affair that manufactured tension unnecessarily.

Season two drew from Julia Quinn’s The Viscount Who Loved Me, which featured a much stronger storyline without a love triangle and a perceptive Edwina, who possessed far greater self-awareness than her television counterpart.

3. Bridgerton season 4

Whilst still in its infancy, season four of Bridgerton is proving to be amongst the strongest, potentially the finest, seasons the show has delivered.

The electric chemistry between leads Thompson and Ha renders them mesmerising, whilst the show’s concentration on the central couple bolsters the season considerably.

There’s also the upstairs-downstairs tension with the Maid Wars, which introduces essential edge to Bridgerton and distinguishes it from merely being a frothy, sensual period fantasy.

This author shall reserve judgement until part two arrives; though it depends on how season four wraps up.

2. Bridgerton season 1

The first season marked the beginning of everything.

Audiences were swept into Shondaland’s polished, glamorous interpretation of Quinn’s Regency romance novels in spectacular fashion. With its diverse cast, charming leads, instrumental versions of modern hits and passionate scenes, television was transformed forever.

Bridgerton successfully reinvigorated the traditional period drama genre.

The romance between Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page) and Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), featuring the classic fake-courting-turns-real trope, proved utterly captivating.

Beyond the romance lay deeper substance. Simon’s tragic upbringing, his journey to overcome his stammer, and his troubled relationship with his harsh father added weight.

Daphne’s limited understanding of intimacy, authentic to the era, enriched the storytelling and distinguished it from others.

1. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Positioned between the second and third seasons, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story functions as a prequel rather than a complete season.

Nevertheless, this limited series remains firmly within the Bridgerton world and provided crucial background, particularly regarding the diverse composition of the ton.

Written by Shonda Rhimes herself rather than adapted from Quinn’s novels, the series excelled in presenting a sophisticated romantic narrative incorporating real historical elements. The turbulent early relationship between King George III (Corey Mylchreest) and Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio), complicated by his mental health struggles, proved captivating and seldom explored in period dramas.

Additionally, the new queen’s heritage and the speculative fiction aspect of the narrative added intrigue, with a young Lady Danbury (Arsema Thomas) cautioning Charlotte that she must make the Great Experiment an unquestionable triumph.

The three leading stars – Amarteifio, Thomas and Mylchreest – delivered outstanding performances as younger versions of beloved Bridgerton characters, whilst brilliant scenes from the present day featuring Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell), Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) and Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) added further depth.

It seems Shonda’s brilliance has guaranteed that Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story reigns supreme within the Bridgerton universe.

Bridgerton season 4, part 2 will be released on Netflix on February 26
