Disney Channel Alum Christy Carlson Romano Says She Once Feared Hollywood Might “Kill” Her

Christy Carlson Romano says her life once looked dramatically different from the wholesome Disney Channel persona audiences knew. In her upcoming memoir, “Once Upon a Trainwreck: The Rise and Fall of a Child Star,” she opens up about that turbulent period.

The former “Even Stevens” actress, now 42, recalls trying cocaine for the first time at a Halloween party hosted by Paris Hilton. She also writes candidly about her struggle with bulimia.

According to an excerpt obtained by People, Romano says a guest named Edie introduced her to the drug. She describes Edie as a striking, well-connected assistant at a marketing firm.

“Even though I’ve been to a million clubs, I’ve never seen cocaine before, never done it, but I know what the white lines on the table are. I’ve always sworn I’d never try it,” Romano writes, according to the outlet.

After she inhaled the cocaine, the “Kim Possible” star says Edie and other guests laughed about “getting the Disney girl to do blow for the first time.”

Romano also reveals that she developed bulimia “just to feel something” and eventually dropped to a size 00 in pants.

After six months in Los Angeles spent sleeping through the day, partying at night and using cocaine again, Romano says she realized she needed to get away.

“I can’t take the shallowness of Hollywood and clubs anymore,” she writes. “It’s going to kill me.”

“Once Upon a Trainwreck: The Fall and Rise of a Child Star” is scheduled for release Oct. 6.

As she promotes the memoir, Romano also publicly criticized one of her former boyfriends Wednesday. She claimed that her “Cadet Kelly” co-star Shawn Ashmore ghosted her because she “wasn’t famous enough.”

“Shawn and I dated for the summer we filmed ‘Cadet Kelly’ and for a few months after,” Romano, who was 18 at the time, wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the pair on set.

“I was eventually ghosted and had heard ‘his team’ thought I wasn’t famous enough for us to keep dating. Hollywood is brutal for a young girl,” she continued.

Romano said she wrote the memoir to “expose everything that actually happens in this business.”

The actress has previously discussed her eating disorder. In a YouTube video posted in October 2021, she spoke openly about the damaging period in her life.

Romano, who is 5 feet 7 inches tall, said her weight at one point fell to 105 pounds.

“I remember drinking a lot and I remember smoking lots of cigarettes and I remember just not eating and waking up at, like, later parts of the day and not prioritizing my health in general,” she recalled.

“I look at pictures from that time and I just know how unhappy the lifestyle was for me,” she added.
