He braves some of the most dangerous stunts on TV – but Nick Knowles says his girlfriend is eager for him to take things easier.
The 60-year-old’s daredevil dramas have seen him fear for his life as his gyrocopter spun out of control over the Grand Canyon.
And earlier this month he was at Mount Etna when the Sicilian volcano started to spew smoke and ash in an eruption just hours after he had been filming.
“The most recent adventures have been quite a lot more pressurised than before,” confessed Nick, who has been dating business owner Katie Dadzie, 33, for two years.
“But Katie knows it is not going to stop me doing things because I am afraid of them so there is not a lot she can do about it. She does tell me how worried she is and I know I really scared her when I literally almost died on a gyrocopter.”

The DIY: SOS presenter was filming for two-part Channel Five series Escaping the Grand Canyon with Nick Knowles when disaster almost struck – literally.

Speaking at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Nick said: “We were flying over the Grand Canyon and there was a sudden change in the weather and we got stuck in a lightning cloud.
“It all got a bit ugly. My life did flash before me but luckily, I am here to tell the tale.
“It’s trying to make sure that you face your fears and you overcome them and don’t let them control you.
“Katie understands that it could go wrong but you can take all of the safety precautions and something still happens.”
Father-of-four Nick also had a close shave when he visited Sicily for another TV adventure.
He said: “I climbed up to the top of Mount Etna and I said to the guide, ‘How much notice do you get when these things blow up?’ and he went, ‘Oh quite a bit’.
“But then a couple of days later it went bang in the most spectacular way. It had literally exploded and I was standing where it erupted, so I had a lucky escape. But these are great adventures. I’m getting to travel and see the world.”
