Since their move from the UK to the United States in 2020, the couple has diligently shielded their children from the media glare and the heavy mantle of royalty. A close family friend recently shared with Hello! magazine, “The children are blissfully ignorant of their royal ties, thanks to their parents’ efforts to let them enjoy the carefree life of any other kids.”
The longstanding tensions between Prince Harry and Prince William have further complicated Archie and Lilibet’s connections with their royal relatives, leaving the children with limited interaction with the family. Though distance provides a temporary reprieve, the inevitable revelation of their heritage looms. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond remarked, “Their lack of awareness now is perhaps a relief, but the eventual truth of their heritage and estrangement will become evident,” in a conversation with OK! in 2024.
Bond added that navigating this revelation will require careful handling. “For now, they remain blissfully unaware, but Harry and Meghan face a bittersweet path ahead as they eventually introduce their children to their true identity,” she said, underlining Harry’s probable paternal concerns. Their visit to King Charles III in July 2026 marked a milestone for Archie and Lilibet, then aged 7 and 5, offering a glimpse into a reality that will soon become apparent to them.

Choosing to raise his family away from the royal fold was no trivial decision for Prince Harry. Harry and Meghan Markle established that they wanted their kids to have as normal an upbringing as possible long before they started their family and broke ties with the royals. “[Harry and Meghan’s] children are expected to one day have regular jobs, and will be raised to appreciate the differences in society,” a source told Entertainment Tonight in 2018, when Meghan was pregnant with Archie.
