Dr. Dre says one particular Drake bar angered him a lot during the Toronto rapper’s feud with Kendrick Lamar.

The legendary producer is a huge supporter of Kendrick Lamar, but he is also from an era of hip hop where lyrical feuds were the foundation of the genre from the 1980s into the 90s. If there is anyone who would enjoy a good rap beef where two of the greats of this current generation trade bars, it would be Dr. Dre.

Being one of his proteges in rap, Dre threw his support behind Kendrick Lamar from the onset. The doctor certainly doesn’t mind being in the ani-Drake camp, but despite his allegiance, he stays quiet for the most part about the beef. At least until Drake injected some bars in one of his diss tracks.

Dr. Dre recently shared his opinion on the legendary beef during an appearance on Kenya Barris and Malcolm Gladwell’s Unusual Suspects podcast. He explained why he kept quiet about the beef and why he eventually publicly endorsed Kendrick Lamar after Drizzy rapped about the Compton rapper’s wife and children.

What Dr. Dre said about Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef?

“I’ma say this on camera. I don’t want to get negative,” the rapper/producer said. “My whole sh– is about being positive and moving forward and all that sh–. The fact I heard Drake say something negative about Kendrick’s wife and his kids, that made me say, ‘Ah, adios’.”

Dr. Dre also made it clear that he loved Kendrick Lamar’s blistering diss track, “Not Like Us.” The producer shared, “I love that record.” Dre is going to be a proud mentor when he sees Kendrick Lamar step out on stage at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans. K.Dot has collaborated with Dre multiple times over the years and has shared that he has been a mentor in his career. Dot also appears on the Compton album released in 2015 when the movie biopic came out.

Where Dr. Dre stands now with Drake

On the other hand, Dr. Dre isn’t so foreign to Drake’s side of things. The Toronto rapper previously shared that he wrote for Dr. Dre when he was around age 19, likely when the producer was working on the elusive Detox album. It’s safe to say that even if that album ever sees the light of day, any Drake contribution will get scrubbed from it.
