Drake regrets 'disrupting someone's life' by name-dropping exes in his songs

Drake’s future girlfriends won’t be featured in his music, according to the Grammy-winning rapper.

While chatting with Lil Yachty on “Moody Conversations” recently, the rapper admitted that he has two regrets when it comes to his decades-long career: name-dropping his exes in his songs and calling out older rappers.

“I hate hearing that s—t,” he said referencing his song “Weston Road Flows” where he raps about retiring at 35.

“I think that, and sometimes when I’ve said girls’ names in songs, maybe those are the two things that I look back on and I’m like, ‘Maybe I could’ve done without, like, sh–ing on people for age or disrupting somebody’s life,’” the musician, 36, said.

While he clarified that “the lyrics are never with ill intent,” one of his exes confronted him about it once.

“I had somebody tell me one time, ‘You know, it’s not necessarily what you’re saying about me, it’s the fact that you said it,’” he said.

“‘You don’t know who my boyfriend is at the time, or you don’t know what my family knows or doesn’t know. And if you express any form of discontent for me and call me by name in a song, then all of a sudden I’m left to pick up the pieces of my own life that I’ve tried to build up for myself.’”

Despite saying he has tried his “best to stop doing that,” sometimes he just gets in his feelings and needs to let it out.

“But I like to be honest in music too so that one’s a push and pull.”

Throughout Drake’s seven studio albums, the rapper has called out some of Hollywood’s hottest stars such as Rihanna and SZA.

In his 2021 song “Mr.Right Now,” the rapper claimed he briefly dated the “Kill Bill” singer.

“Yeah, said she wanna f— to some SZA, wait / ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08,” he rapped.

That same year, he referenced his relationship with Jennifer Lopez in “Diplomatic Immunity” saying, “2010 was when I lost my halo/2017, I lost a J.”

He has also famously called out Keshia Chanté on “In My Feelings” and a woman named Kiki, who many people assumed might’ve been Kim Kardashian. (It was later found out to be a woman named K’yanna Barber.)
