Dancing With the Stars season 34 contestant Dylan Efron is pulling back the curtain on his relationship with his dad, David Efron.
“My dad is a ride or die for sure. I’m going to tear up, you’re going to kill me,” Dylan, 33, said on the Wednesday, October 1, premiere episode of the “OFFICE OF” podcast. “I was finding baby photos for Dancing With the Stars and my dad sends me all these. Oh my God, I’m going to tear up. Some of the photos of my dad holding me as a kid, I see myself in him. He’s always looked after me.”
Dylan got emotional while gushing that David — who is also dad to actor Zac Efron — is someone he could “absolutely” approach for anything. (After David and Starla Baskett divorced, he remarried and welcomed two children with his second wife, Jenny.)
“I was very much raised by him. He took me to all my sports games growing up. We’re just very similar. He’s been my rock my whole life. I used to call him every day after work,” Dylan shared, adding that his father is “for sure” proud of him today.
Another person who has always been in Dylan’s corner is Zac, 37. As Dylan navigates his newfound fame (thanks to The Traitors and now Dancing With the Stars), he explained that Zac has shown him the ropes when it comes to living life in the spotlight.
“If there’s two things about Zac, when he’s on a movie, he’s that same way that he gives 100 percent. It’s his passion so it’s so inspiring to see him lock in,” the reality star told Yale Breslin on Wednesday. “During Baywatch, he’s waking up at 4 in the morning, going through a grueling workout to then film all day and memorize his lines and stuff. I say I go 100 percent, I’ve seen my brother go 120 [percent]. I so respect his work ethic and I think that’s rubbed off on me.”
He continued, “Also, his reasons behind everything. His goal is never to be famous. He loved performing, he loved being in movies. I think he stayed true to that. Fame wasn’t what he wanted, fame is what he got. It’s had its ups and downs for him. At the end of the day, Zac was an actor. He has given it his passion, his love. It’s so inspiring to see.”
When asked what Zac has taught him about being a “patient guy,” Dylan explained, “He’s never been caught up in it, if that makes sense.”
“He’s filming an A-list movie and going to red carpets but then he’s also fishing with me in L.A. river,” Dylan said. “And the first one to be like, ‘Dylan we need to get out, let’s go to Montana.’ He’s always prioritized family, authentic experiences, going to Nepal. He’s always like, ‘Let’s get into the real world and learn.’ He finishes a movie and he’s like, ‘Let’s get out of here.’ He’s not like, ‘I need to post about this.’ He’s not so absorbed in this online world.”
