90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? is a popular spinoff of the original 90 Day Fiancé series that follows couples who have already tied the knot and are now adjusting to married life.
As the original series focuses on these couples during the 90-day countdown to marriage, Happily Ever After? dives into the next phases of their lives, with some couples still facing family tension, communication barriers, and cultural differences. Season 9 of the spinoff reintroduces viewers to familiar faces, including controversial couple Elizabeth Potthast and Andrei Castravet, as they discuss whether they should move their entire family to Moldova.
Elizabeth And Andrei Travel To Moldova Where He Makes A Major Announcement
Elizabeth Was Confused As To Why Andrei’s Family Was So Excited
90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? brings back Elizabeth Potthast and Andrei Castravet, a couple known for their ongoing tension with Elizabeth’s family. Much of the drama centered around her siblings, especially her brother, Charlie Potthast, whose rocky relationship with Andrei once escalated into a physical altercation at a family barbecue.
However, this season sees the couple deciding whether to move their family to Moldova, where Andrei is from. Elizabeth is seriously considering the move despite her family and friends’ disapproval. In Episode 4, Elizabeth, Andrei, and their two young children decide to take a trip to see if it might give Elizabeth the push she needs to make the big move.
“This trip is going to determine if it’s the right time to move our entire family there,” Elizabeth shares in a confessional.
As the family of four touch down in Moldova, Elizabeth already admits that she feels “overwhelmed.” They will be staying with Andrei’s parents, which means six people — two of whom are small children — will share one bathroom. Another problem Elizabeth faces is not understanding Romanian, although she knows when people are “talking s***,” she shares.
As the couple sit down for dinner with other members of Andrei’s family, they have a discussion about permanently locating to Moldova. However, Elizabeth has a hard time understanding what they are discussing as Andrei speaks to his family in Romanian, telling his father that he’s been trying to convince Elizabeth to move, but it’s been “difficult.” That same night, she learns that the family is throwing a party, but has no idea why.
“Andrei is already laying on enough pressure and his family is adding another layer of this intense feeling. All I want to do at this point is go to bed,” she shares.
That night, Elizabeth and Andrei head to the party, and she is shocked to see his entire family there along with a traditional Moldovan band. She still has no idea why they are throwing such an extravagant event.
Andrei then makes a speech, but it’s entirely in Romanian.
“We threw this party because we decided to move to Moldova,” Andrei tells everyone.
“I am not fluent in Romanian. I’m very limited in my vocabulary. Some things get lost in translation and this is one of them. I feel kind of stupid because I don’t know what’s going on,” she shares in a confessional.
The night ends with fireworks, and Elizabeth is still unaware of what’s going on. Once Andrei finally tells his wife why they threw such a lavish party, there is not doubt that drama will ensue for this couple.
Elizabeth’s Friends Believed Moving To Moldova Was A Bad Idea
Loren Brovarnik Was Especially Concerned About Their Potential Move
Before Elizabeth and Andrei made plans to take a trip to Moldova, she confided in her friends, 90 Day Fiancé stars Loren Brovarnik and Yara Zaya about potentially moving to the European nation. Both women did not think it was such a great idea, with Yara telling her, “Why the f*** would you move to Moldova?” In their conversation, Elizabeth believed she “owed it” to Andrei to move to his country. However, in a confessional, Loren thinks otherwise.
“I don’t believe that guilty bulls*** honestly,” she begins. “I get it, he came here for her, but that’s something but that’s something they decided to do together.”
In another scene, Loren expressed frustration with Yara for putting a scenario in Elizabeth’s head that she might actually like living in Moldova, adding that it’s so close to other nations. “I am annoyed that Yara is encouraging Elizabeth to move to Moldova because, as her friend, you should want what’s best for her. I think I care about Elizabeth moving to Moldova because I understand her position. We both got married to really opinionated Eastern Europeans.”
“I had to learn to stand up for myself, so I want her to be the happiest version of herself and I don’t know if that’s going to happen in Moldova.”
Fans Are Adamant That Elizabeth And Andrei’s Move To Moldova Is Fake
Did The Couple Come Up With A Fake Storyline?
A Reddit thread discussing Elizabeth and Andrei’s possible move to Moldova in Season 9 of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? raised doubts about the authenticity of their storyline.
Several commenters questioned the practicality of such a drastic relocation, especially given the challenges of finding schools for their children, who don’t speak Romanian, and securing jobs in a new country. Andrei shared that he could work remotely from his job in the U.S., but with Moldova being seven hours ahead of Florida, this doesn’t sound promising.
“This plot is 100% fake and manufactured by the producers. The family is not going to move to the poorest country in Europe, where nobody speaks English. I haven’t even heard what the plan is for school. It’s manufactured like other plots,” a comment read.
“Without a doubt. And the production is doing that thing they love to do where they film for about 6 days and chop it up so they can broadcast a season for four and a half months,” another read.
Another commenter pointed out a very sketchy situation with Andrei from past seasons that most viewers will remember: “Didn’t Andrea mention in the past seasons that he met Libby in Ireland because he had to flee Moldova because the police were corrupt and after him which is why he can’t go back permanently? Or am I remembering wrong?”
“[L]iterally no one believes they are actually even considering moving to moldova. They are going to visit his fam and wanted a story line cause they are dull,” a comment said.
So, is the couple’s move to Moldova just for show? That remains to be seen. Viewers will have to keep watching to find out how Elizabeth reacts to Andrei dropping the bombshell about relocating their family overseas.
