Elle Fanning dazzled on Wednesday evening as she paid tribute to her friend, filmmaker Sofia Coppola.
Fanning was adorned in a look straight from the runway, showcasing Creative Director Matthieu Blazy’s inaugural collection for Chanel, a brand she has long admired and collaborated with.
The French luxury label hosted the MoMA Film Benefit in New York City, celebrating Coppola and attracting numerous fashion icons in her support.
Fanning opted for an ensemble featuring a cream-colored crewneck sweater and a skirt, both intricately woven with sequins. The relaxed, shimmering top complemented the elegant flow of her midi skirt.
The skirt’s inclusion of pockets reflects the new creative director’s commitment to Coco Chanel’s legacy, merging high fashion with practical design for women.
She accessorized with a pair of gold pointed-toe pumps, a rounded cream clutch and Cartier jewelry.
At age 11, Fanning worked with Coppola on the film “Somewhere,” and then again, seven years later, on the Southern Gothic thriller, “The Beguiled,” which boasted an A-list cast.
According to Vogue, she shared with the room, “I like to say, while I didn’t go to college, I went to New Orleans with Sofia, Kirsten Dunst, and Nicole Kidman [for ‘The Beguiled’], and it was there that Sofia shaped me at another formative period of my life when I was 18.”
Moreover, the longtime friends and collaborators wore coordinated looks for the evening, with Coppola choosing the black dress version of Fanning’s sparkly cream set.
While stylist Samantha McMillen shared pre-event photos of the actress in her full look, Fanning also posted a sweet tribute on Instagram featuring candids from the evening.
“Magical night at @themuseumofmodernart celebrating the one and only Sofia. I ask myself daily “WWSD” (what would Sofia do?) a motto we should all live by🎀🎀🎀 @sofiacoppola.”
And, if her choice of Chanel looks has anything to say for it, she also asked, “What would Sofia wear?” too.
