Elton John has fired back at some impolite TikTok users after they criticized the state of his kitchen, particularly focusing on his oven. Last month, the iconic musician took to social media with a humorous video depicting his comical struggle to escape his own festive hit, “Step Into Christmas.” In the clip, the 78-year-old rock legend is seen frantically opening various cupboards and drawers as the catchy holiday tune blares around him.

The video quickly gained traction, amassing a staggering eight million views on the platform. However, rather than focusing on the humor, many viewers zeroed in on the cleanliness of John’s oven, sparking a wave of comments regarding its condition. Not one to let such remarks slide, John responded with a follow-up video aimed at addressing the criticisms.

In the video, Elton John addresses his audience directly: “Hello people, it’s Elton John here. A couple of weeks ago, I did some videos in this kitchen about how crazy ‘Step Into Christmas’ was driving me, and it got an incredible response, which I was quite startled about,” he began, acknowledging the unexpected buzz his original post had created.

He continued, “But a lot of the response was kind of negative about how dirty my oven was. My oven door, my oven window. And I can assure you, I don’t have anything dirty in this house. I’ve never had anything dirty. I’m not a dirty person.” With a touch of humor and a firm stance, he sought to dispel the notion of any untidiness in his home.

To further drive his point home, John released another clip, this time showing himself with pink fluffy Marigold gloves, diligently scrubbing away at the oven door. It was a cheeky yet firm rebuttal, demonstrating his commitment to maintaining cleanliness and, perhaps more importantly, his ability to handle criticism with grace and humor.

As he cleaned his appliance, he cooed: “Look at this, oh! Look, I’ve got the cleanest oven window in Windsor.” His festive classic, Step Into Christmas, was written by John and his longtime showwriting partner, Bernie Taupin, back in 1973.

The song peaked at No. 24 on the UK singles chart but experienced a resurgence in 2019, climbing to No. 8. In December 2023, it was then certified triple platinum by the British Phonographic Industry and still remains one of the UK’s most popular Christmas songs.

This year, it is currently on track to get back into the UK Top 40, along with other immortal Christmas classics such as Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, The Pogues’ hit Fairytale of New York, and Last Christmas by Wham!

Brandi Carlile, with whom John released his Grammy-nominated album Who Believes In Angels? earlier this year, recently shared that they are planning to release a new Christmas song.

The 44-year-old told Press Association: “We keep talking about doing a Christmas song together, and I love Step Into Christmas, but I also love that Christmas song he did with Ed Sheeran a couple of years ago, that’s a really, really good song too. So I would love to write a Christmas song with Elton, he’s got all those songs, you know, to make this beautiful chordal.”
