The curtain fell on Season 34 of Dancing With The Stars with Robert Irwin and Witney Carson taking the trophy. As the show takes a break before the next installment, speculation is rife among fans about which professional dancers will return for Season 35.
Recently, buzz began to circulate that Emma Slater, a beloved figure on the show, might be stepping away from the dance floor. Addressing these rumors, Emma has since come forward to clarify the situation and dispel any misconceptions.
The speculation about Emma’s departure from DWTS originated from a misunderstanding related to a social media message. Emma explained that a caption accompanying a TikTok video had been misinterpreted, leading to assumptions about her plans with the show. She emphasized that this was not her intention and set the record straight.
Emma Says There Was A Miscommunication
Apparently, the rumors that Emma might be leaving DWTS started due to poor wording on one of the social media posts. This past week, Emma clarified that one of her previous captions to a TikTok video made it seem like she was being cryptic about her future on the dance competition, but that this wasn’t actually the case:
When I posted this exact video back in September it confused a lot of people. I wrote a caption that said something like ‘you never know when it will end, thank you DWTS for the ride of my life’ and people thought I was leaving!
Emma continued that her original post was meant to express gratitude for the most recent chapter of her DWTS experience, not to signal that it was coming to a permanent end. “You never know when your time is up, so I’m gunna love it every single day,” she explained. “This is the ride of my life and no one knows when this will end. I truly am so thankful, and one day I will watch videos back of this time. And I will be proud because I recognized even in the moment how special this time is,” she added.
This isn’t the first time a similar DWTS rumor has spread. In fact, recently another pro, Rylee Arnold, also spoke out to clarify whispers about her own departure from the show.
Rylee spoke with the show’s host Julianne Hough and reminded viewers that casting decisions aren’t made until shortly before the season begins. As much as she wanted to be there for Season 35, production had yet to confirm her role, and so she wasn’t able to assure fans of her return because she herself had yet to be informed of it.
Emma Had A Rich Season With Andy Richter
In the most recent season, Emma was paired with actor and comedian Andy Richter, and the two seemed to have a wonderful partnership. While Andy considered his dance skills to be pretty weak compared to his competition, the two managed to place seventh overall in the season.
In a conversation on Conan O’Brien’s podcast, Andy shared how great of a partner Emma had been to him:
I luckily was paired with a sweet angel of a ballroom dancer. There were so many people around there—from promo people to security guards to different people like stagehands [who] are like, ‘You got the best one.’ Because she is just so much fun.
With that kind of review, hopefully that isn’t the last time that we get to see Emma grace the ballroom floor. As of this article’s writing, the cast for Season 35 of Dancing With The Stars has yet to be announced.
