Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos continues to hold onto hope for the safe return of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of television personality Savannah Guthrie, who remains missing.
On the Friday, February 6, broadcast of Today, NBC’s Liz Kreutz is seen asking the sheriff, “What gives you hope that Nancy is still out there?”
“Wow,” he expressed, his voice catching with emotion. “You have to have hope. This is someone’s mom. We’re determined to find her.”
The case is being treated as a possible kidnapping or abduction and has entered its sixth day. During a press conference held Thursday, authorities revealed that they are taking one of the ransom notes related to Nancy’s disappearance very seriously because of the facts associated with it and what authorities seem to believe is a connection to Nancy.

Authorities have set two deadlines for meeting the demands related to her disappearance. The first deadline, which has already elapsed, was at 5 p.m. last Thursday. A subsequent deadline is scheduled for Monday, February 9, if the initial conditions are not fulfilled. However, as of now, there has been “no proof of life” for Nancy.
Savannah Guthrie, aged 54, and her family are deeply distressed and have issued several pleas for Nancy’s safe return. In the latest statement, Savannah’s brother, Camron Guthrie, expressed the family’s willingness to communicate with any potential kidnappers.
“This is Camron Guthrie,” he began in a video shared to sister Savannah’s Instagram Thursday night. “I’m speaking for the Guthrie family. Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you.”
“We haven’t received any direct communication,” Camron stated. “We need you to reach out and provide a way for us to communicate with you so we can move forward. But first, we need confirmation that you have our mom.”

“We want to talk to you,” he said, “and we are waiting for contact.”
The Today anchor’s mother was last seen on the night of Saturday, January 31, and she was reported missing the following day by family members after she failed to show up at church.
Nancy is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds; she has brown hair and blue eyes. While it’s been said that Nancy does not live with any cognitive issues, her life could be in danger if she does not take her medication daily, per authorities.
