Whitney Leavitt made it clear during Season 1 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives that she wasn’t interested in much of the drama unfolding around her. As fellow cast members Taylor Frankie Paul, Jen Affleck, and others navigated their complicated personal lives, Whitney similarly dealt with rumors about her husband and their desire to have another baby.
As the villain in the minds of many observers and castmates, Whitney implied she was done with the MomTok crew by the end of the season. That left questions about whether she would be back for Season 2 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, but Whitney confirmed her return in October 2024.
Whitney is back, but she claims she’s not the same person she was. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has been very vocal about what she’s learned and how she’s grown—here’s everything Whitney has said about it.
Whitney Leavitt Left MomTok Briefly After Season 1 Of The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives, But It Didn’t Last Long
Whitney Leavitt announced at the end of the first season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives that she was leaving MomTok, but didn’t say she was leaving the show. She didn’t dismiss that idea either, however. When Whitney did exit the MomTok group, she explained,
“I want to focus on my family. I want to focus on what I want our future to be… I want to focus on my homestead!”
She wished MomTok “Good luck without me” but her fellow MomTok-ers didn’t seem to think they would struggle in her absence. Mikayla Matthews put it this way:
“I think MomTok is better off without Whitney. She gets a lot of views and attention, but I don’t think we need her… It’s kind of like ‘Out of sight, out of mind.’ She wants everyone to kind of chase her and be like ‘No Whitney we love you, come back.’ I’m just exhausted at this point.'”
Whitney rejoined the group and confirmed she’d continue with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives in October 2024, shortly after the show aired. Whitney was “excited” to reunite with her MomTok group but made it clear there are “tough conversations ahead, but I look forward to our journey together.”
Season 2 Of The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives Will Feature A More Authentic Version Of Whitney Leavitt
After Season 1 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Whitney Leavitt reflected on everything she’d experienced. Revelations about her husband Conner’s porn consumption and what it meant for their marriage accompanied her focus on their family which, in October 2024, grew with the addition of their third child, Billy Gene.
Ultimately, Whitney said on Off the Vine With Kaitlyn Bristowe that she was going to “be herself” during Season 2. She also talked about what she learned from Season 1:
“What I really learned from this last season is I just wanna let go of what I can’t control… I can’t control what other women are gonna say or do or whatever, but, like, I control what I can control and I also don’t wanna take things as personally as I did in the first season.”
No longer interested in playing a “calculated game,” Whitney decided she would “sit down and figure out” whatever was going on with her fellow cast members.
In an interview with The Cut, Whitney got specific about her regrets from the first season. She said that one mistake she made was letting the conversation between her and Jen Affleck during which she called Demi Engemann “too Mormon” be shown. Additionally,
“I also regret bringing into that conversation what Demi had called Taylor, which was “white trash.” I wasn’t even there for that, but I did bring it onto the show. I wish I didn’t do that because that bit me right up the ass. And I really did feel bad—I apologized to Demi, but that wasn’t in the show. There were a lot of apologies said, specifically from me, that we had filmed. I would have loved for those scenes to have been on the show.”
Whitney Leavitt Is Grateful For Connecting With The Fans Of The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives
Whitney Leavitt’s personal journey and how it relates to The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives continues to develop. As Season 2 approaches, Whitney told People that she was moved by the fans who had reached out to her:
“I went to a museum here in Utah and a woman came up to me and got a little emotional and was basically venting to me about her and her husband. They went through similar issues that myself and my husband went through and how in those moments listening to me that she could relate with me and didn’t feel alone… That meant a lot to me because you don’t see who’s watching, you don’t see the numbers, you don’t see the people who are watching or listening to your story. It’s just out there, but you don’t know who’s viewing it or seeing it.”
The positive experiences with fans have propelled Whitney forward, as have some of the more negative aspects of being in the spotlight. Widely characterized as “the villain” of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Whitney is really getting to know herself and resisting the outside noise about what people believe about her.
Even before agreeing to do Season 2 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Whitney was hopeful about where her relationships are with many of her castmates. She told The Cut that she and Taylor Frankie Paul were on good terms, as was also the case with Mayci Neeley. Whitney’s not naive, however, and is well aware that drama is inevitable.
