The countdown is almost over!

On January 28, Apple TV+ revealed that the eagerly awaited fourth season of Ted Lasso is set to hit screens this summer. The beloved cast, including Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and Brett Goldstein, will be returning to delight fans once more.

Despite the anticipation, some insiders connected to the series express disappointment, noting that Sudeikis, 50, along with other key actors, seemed eager to conclude filming. The atmosphere on set reportedly felt strained and lacked its usual vibrancy.

“After the first run of Ted Lasso concluded a few years back, Jason aimed to make a mark as a global film star,” an insider shared with In Touch. However, his recent projects have primarily included commercials for Michelob Ultra and Taco Bell, voice roles in Hit-Monkey and Hitpig!, and guest spots on Jason and Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, as well as SNL50: The Anniversary Special.

According to the source, the realization set in for the actor that “the most lucrative opportunity available to him was to revive Lasso, don the mustache once more, and embody the character cherished by audiences worldwide.”

A lot has changed since the Emmy-winning series premiered in 2020, though.

“Jason, in particular, is very aware of how the pandemic, and how isolated people felt back then, fed into the show’s initial success,” says In Touch’s source. “People have a lot more entertainment options than they did when everybody in the country was sheltered in place for months at a time.”

It’s going to be up to Sudeikis and his castmates to get viewers to believe in this season, which will follow a women’s soccer team in Richmond.

“Even under the best circumstances, Jason hates doing press,” admits the source. “But he’s really going to have to get out there and beat the drum to re-activate his fan base and make sure this very expensive season of television doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.”
