Katherine Jackson, the iconic matriarch of the renowned Jackson family, stepped into the spotlight this week, just in time for the upcoming release of the biopic “Michael.”
The mother of pop icons Janet Jackson and the late Michael Jackson was captured in a photograph with Colman Domingo, the actor portraying her late husband, Joe Jackson, in the film.
On his Instagram Story, Domingo expressed his gratitude, stating, “Receiving her love and support was everything. We shared laughter, locked eyes, and enjoyed a truly delightful moment that evening.”
He continued by thanking the family members who attended and appreciated their efforts, saying, “Thank you to the family that showed up and embraced us and our work.”
At 56, Domingo hinted that Katherine, at 95, had given her blessing to the project, concluding with, “We made her happy.”
While the “Michael” cast and many of the Jackson family have been out in full force at premiere events, two notable faces have been missing from the festivities: Michael’s sister, Janet, and the late King of Pop’s daughter, Paris Jackson.
In recent years, Katherine has largely remained out of the spotlight aside from occasional appearances on daughter La Toya Jackson’s social media.
Back in March, La Toya shared an Instagram video of her and Katherine at church, calling her mother a “kind soul that radiates love” and “an inspiration to us all!”
La Toya, 69, previously honored Katherine with a heartfelt Mother’s Day tribute in May 2025, sharing a slideshow dedicated to the head of their family’s music dynasty.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible amazing loving and beautiful moms!” she wrote at the time. “You are truly the strength that navigates us through life by setting the foundation. We love and admire all the moms and your integrity! 😘💖.”
A decade ago, for Thanksgiving 2016, two of Michael’s children, Paris and Prince Jackson, shared gushing social media posts about their grandmother.
In recent years, Katherine — who shared 10 children with Joe — has been embroiled in a legal dispute with Michael’s third child, Bigi Jackson, formerly known as Blanket. She has also suffered the loss of son Tito Jackson in September 2024.
Over the years, Katherine has been portrayed by Angela Bassett in the 1992 mini-series “The Jacksons: An American Dream” and by Patricia Idlette in the 2004 VH1 biopic “Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story.”
Katherine is portrayed by Nia Long in “Michael,” the Antoine Fuqua-directed biopic about the “Thriller” singer.
Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew and the son of Jermaine Jackson, is playing his uncle in the film, which has received lackluster reviews thus far.
“Michael” moonwalks into theaters on April 24.
