CBS has officially provided a sneak peek into the tribal council setting for Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans, showcasing an exciting design for this milestone season. The newly unveiled images reveal a set that prominently features phoenix imagery, a symbol often linked to themes of rebirth, strength, and renewal.
This theme seems particularly fitting for a show marking its 50th season. This special edition of the reality competition will bring back some of its most celebrated champions, giving them a chance to compete against one another once again.
According to TV Insider, exclusive images of the tribal council set have surfaced, offering fans an early insight into the design. Observers have noted the strong use of the phoenix motif, which is inspired by ancient Egyptian mythology.
The Phoenix Image Holds Significance
As reported by TV Insider, some exclusive photos of the tribal council set gave fans an early look at the new design. Many noticed that it relied heavily on the phoenix motif, which draws from ancient Egyptian mythology.
Those familiar with the bird will know that it represents immortality and resurrection—according to tradition, the phoenix lives for centuries before bursting into flames and being reborn from its own ashes. The symbolism likely reflects Survivor’s long-running legacy and its ability to continually reinvent itself since originally premiering in 2000.
In the same conversation with the outlet, host Jeff Probst spoke about why he believed viewers continued to be hooked on the show decades later:
The secret is that even if you don’t realize it, Survivor is this whisper in your ear saying, ‘I know you want a bigger adventure in your life.’
“I’m screaming at the top of my lungs, ‘It’s not about the game! It’s about the adventure!’ The adventure that’s burning in your f****** soul right now that you’re saying, ‘Is this it? Maybe, maybe not.’ The people who apply to be on Survivor are saying, ‘I got something. There’s something out there for me,’” he added.
Fans Will Get To Be Involved In Season 50
While not every viewer can get the actual island experience, Season 50 is getting the audience involved like never before. The season’s title, In the Hands of the Fans, is literal—viewers are invited to vote on major gameplay elements, including the presence of idols, the future of fire-making, and whether the live finale and reunion would return, meaning they’ll have a tangible impact on the course of the series.
Jeff added that watching the show could never replicate the real experience, and he encouraged super fans of the show to consider applying for future seasons:
I don’t think people really get the texture of Survivor, that it’s a real experience. If I could wave a magic wand, I would say everyone who watches gets to have this experience of what it’s like, and then go watch a season. You’ll never watch it again the same [way]. You will watch for the rest of your life because now you know what it is. The only question is, ‘Why aren’t you out here doing it for real?’ That’s what I feel is missing.
Season 50 will feature an all-returnee cast, including three former winners, eleven players who previously reached Final Tribal Council, and several beloved fan favorites who never won, such as Cirie Fields, Colby Donaldson, and Aubry Bracco. The new season premieres Wednesday, February 25, with a special three-hour episode airing on CBS.
