Kim Wilde, renowned for her chart-topping hits in the 1980s, is considering a return to the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show. Wilde, who has successfully transitioned from pop stardom to become a respected horticulturist, previously captured a gold award in 2005 with her Cumbrian Fellside garden. The celebrated landscape gardener has also made her mark on television, hosting gardening programs on both BBC and Channel 4. Her collaboration with friend and co-designer Richard Lucas remains a cherished memory.
In an exclusive conversation with Express.co.uk, the mother of two reflected on the journey that led to the creation of her award-winning garden, describing it as “one of the most fantastic experiences of my life.” She recounted the demanding process: “The first step is getting accepted, which involves submitting a detailed plan. Richard Lucas and I took that chance, just like everyone else, and were thrilled when our proposal was accepted. We relied on van deliveries for both the plants and hard landscaping materials,” Wilde explained.
She elaborated further on the resources involved, stating, “The project required a significant financial investment, but we secured sponsorship to support it. The entire experience is a massive production—costly but immensely enjoyable—and the end result was extraordinary.”
Reflecting on their accomplishment, Wilde added with a smile, “Earning gold medals for the entire project made it one of the most delightful and memorable experiences of my life.”
When asked about the possibility of participating again, Wilde mused, “I’ve thought about it occasionally. It’s definitely something I could see myself doing again.”
“And the great thing is, yeah, I could do it in 10 years time,” she laughed.
“I’m the only one around here who is excited when it rains so I can pull all the weeds out more quickly and with less effort.”
She will have to hand her beloved plants over to someone else temporarily as she is getting set to tour with fellow 1980s pop princess Tiffany in March next year.
Asked what fans can expect, she says: “It’s a celebration of a very long career and it’s a singles tour, and I’m going to be all over the UK. I love performing for my home crowd. There’s something very special about that, celebrating all these years of loving pop music and still making new pop music.”
Kim Wilde’s singles tour will take place in March 2027 with support from Tiffany. Tickets are on sale now from www.kimwilde.com/
