At 70, Suneil Anand has passed away, leaving a void in the world of Hindi cinema. His niece, Gina Narang, confirmed the heartbreaking news, expressing the family’s deep sorrow: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce Suneil Anand’s passing. The abundance of love and support from all corners has been a source of comfort, and we are sincerely thankful. We request privacy during this challenging time.” Suneil was the son of the iconic Dev Anand, a towering figure in Indian cinema whose illustrious career spanned more than six decades.
Tragically, Suneil succumbed to the same fate as his father in the same hospital following a heart attack in London while en route to India from the United States. As reported by NDTV.com, doctors had initially planned to execute a stent procedure post-evaluation. Unfortunately, he experienced a second heart attack before the operation could commence, from which he could not be revived.
Upon hearing of Suneil’s death, his adoring fans took to social media to flood timelines with heartfelt tributes and remembrances.
One grieving admirer wrote: “Deepest condolences for the loss of filmmaker and actor #SuneilAnand ji, the cherished son of the venerable #DevAnand ji. His gentlemanly nature, embodying warmth, grace, and a profound passion for cinema, will be dearly missed. It’s truly heartbreaking.”
Another mournful voice shared: “My heart goes out to Mona Singha Ji, known as Kalpana Kartik, wife of #DevAnand, and mother to #SuneilAnand. To bear the sorrow of outliving both her husband and son is profoundly saddening.”
Fellow actor Raj Babbar added: “Deepest condolences on the passing of filmmaker and actor #SuneilAnand ji, beloved son of the late #DevAnand ji. He was a true gentleman, known for his warmth, grace, and deep love for cinema.
“It’s heartbreaking that his plans to make a film in tribute to his father remained unfinished. May his family find strength, comfort, and peace in these difficult times. Holding you close in my thoughts, brother.”
Another heartbroken fan added: “Sad. RIP! Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends.”
“I was very sad to hear about the passing of Dev Anand’s son, Suneil ji. Condolences to his family, and I pray his soul rests in peace,” echoed a sixth.
Suneil made his acting debut in 1984 with Anand Aur Anand, directed by his father, Dev. Throughout his career, he also starred in films such as Car Thief, Main Tere Liye and Master.
The star had previously shared plans of working on a film dedicated to his father and told press: “It’s a huge movie dedicated to my father. I am producing and directing. The show goes on. I will continue to take my father’s legacy forward.”
