Since Survivor premiered in the year 2000, fans have loved talking about certain subjects pertaining to Jeff Probst’s beloved reality show. For example, fans who no longer have to figure out which seasons to watch first are typically interested in things like who was the first player to be medically evacuated. Of course, Survivor fans also love to debate topics like which seasons are the best, how to rank winners, and which players are the best ever.
Since plans for Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans were announced, many fans have been debating things like what viewers are getting wrong about the season. For a long time, the kind of fans who know that some former players have refused to return have also debated who should play during Survivor 50. After the Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans cast was announced, another topic that fans feel very passionate about is which players shouldn’t have been cast.
Why Ozzy Lusth And Cirie Fields Shouldn’t Be Playing During Survivor 50: In The Hands Of The Fans
As this article begins, it is important to be transparent about two things. First off, the Survivor players who are included on this list aren’t being judged personally or as competitors. Secondly, in order to avoid repetitiveness, some entries will feature two players grouped together. As a result, there will be more than five names included in this list.
Members of the Survivor Hall of Fame, According to The Survivor Wiki
- Parvati Shallow
- “Boston”Rob Mariano
- Russell Hantz
- Richard Hatch
- Sandra Diaz-Twine
- Cirie Fields
- Ozzy Lusth
- Tom Westman
- Amanda Kimmel
- Rob Cesternino
- Ethan Zohn
- Kim Spradlin
- John Cochran
- Jon “Jonny Fairplay” Dalton
- Jerri Manthey
- Benjamin “Coach” Wade
- Rudy Boesch
- Tony Vlachos
- Tina Wesson
- Rupert Boneham
This first entry will focus on both Ozzy Lusth and Cirie Fields since they shouldn’t be included for the same reason. To be clear, since Ozzy and Cirie are both beloved members of the Survivor Hall of Fame, it feels odd to include them both here. More importantly, millions of Survivor fans have been entertained by Cirie and Ozzy for years.
Based on their popularity, it may seem like a good choice to include Cirie and Ozzy in Survivor 50: In The Hands Of The Fans’ cast. However, the problem with the duo is the same as one of their strengths, Cirie and Ozzy have been entertaining fans for years.
When Ozzy and Cirie compete in Survivor 50: In The Hands Of The Fans, it will be the fifth time that both of them compete on the American version of Survivor. As harsh as it may seem at a certain point, enough is enough and it’s time for a change. Instead of coming back to Survivor, they need to do what Cirie has been up to and branch out into other reality shows.
Why Joe Hunter Shouldn’t Be Playing During Survivor 50: In The Hands Of The Fans
During Survivor 48, fans of the show were given a lot of reasons to like Joe Hunter. Seemingly a pure-hearted person, Joe also appeared to move through the game with his heart on the sleeve. Of course, there is also no doubt that Joe’s supportive relationship with Eva Erickson made him seem like a sweetheart.
While there are many reasons to like him, there is a huge problem with Joe joining the cast of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans.

While Joe came across as a great guy, his style of play simply isn’t very interesting to watch. A player who makes strong bonds and sticks to them until he thinks he might be betrayed, it simply isn’t that interesting to watch Joe play.
In theory, Joe could mix things up when he returns for Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans. However, it seems like it is important to Joe to play with integrity, which is part of what makes him a great person. That said, that fact makes it seem exceedingly unlikely that Joe will change the way he plays when he returns. Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans should be a season with elite-level strategy, and it is almost certain that Joe won’t bring that to the game.
Why Dee Valladares Shouldn’t Be Playing During Survivor 50: In The Hands Of The Fans
During the 40th season of Survivor, fans saw 20 former winners from the show’s past come together to compete against each other. An epic idea, Survivor: Winners at War was the ultimate example of bringing former Sole Survivors back to the show. After that, Survivor should have given bringing former winners back a rest, at least for a while. At the very least, the only Survivor winners that should have been considered are those who haven’t played in many years, like Earl Cole or Vecepia Towery.
When Dee Valladares played during Survivor 45, she proved to be an extremely strong competitor, and she was crowned as the winner. The fact that Dee won Survivor so recently is reason enough for her to not be part of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans. However, there is another reason why Dee should have been excluded.
After Dee Valladares won Survivor 45, it didn’t take long for it to become clear that she had made a mark on Jeff Probst. After all, Dee was tapped to be the co-host of the “On Fire with Jeff Probst: The Official Survivor Podcast” throughout the airing of Survivor 46.
The other reason why Dee should have been left out of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans is how dominant she was during Survivor 45.
One of the leaders of the season’s dominant alliance, Dee took a lot of control over Survivor 45. Dee also had the guts to turn on her allies when the time was right. As a result of both of those things, Dee accomplished virtually everything that any Survivor player could dream of doing. With Dee having nothing left to prove, what is the point of bringing her back so soon when other players are dying for the chance to enjoy the success she has already achieved?
Why Kyle Fraser Shouldn’t Be Playing During Survivor 50: In The Hands Of The Fans
At first blush, it may seem like Kyle Fraser and Dee Valladares should have shared an entry like Ozzy Lusth and Cirie Fields did. After all, every single argument that was just made about why Dee shouldn’t be part of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans’ cast also applies to Kyle.
However, the reason why Kyle gets his own entry is that there is another hugely important reason why he shouldn’t be part of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans.

During Survivor 48, Kyle and Kamilla Karthigesu played as one of the best pairs in the show’s history. While their efforts were truly exceptional, Kamilla arguably spent the game in Kyle’s shadow to a certain degree. After all, Kyle was the one who won Survivor 48, and he was the one in the season’s dominant alliance.
During Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans, fans should have gotten the chance to see Kamilla play by herself, and out of Kyle’s shadow. Since both of them are coming back, however, there is a very good chance that Kamilla could be targeted early on to weaken the chance that she teams with Kyle again. That is a crying shame and Kyle should have been left out to give Kamilla more of a chance.
Why Survivor 49’s Players Shouldn’t Be Playing During Survivor 50: In The Hands Of The Fans
When Jeff Probst announced the cast of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans, he revealed that two players from Survivor 49 are being included. That means that the team behind Survivor decided to include two players that fans know next to nothing about in the landmark season. There are three main reasons for that.
First off, there is no way for anyone to know how Survivor fans are going to react to the two players. While the team behind Survivor clearly like those players, fans could find them obnoxious and want them to go away. Arguably, it will be even worse if fans don’t care about the two Survivor 49 players who will be part of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans. If fans react in either of those ways, everyone will still be stuck with the two players coming back for Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans.
The second argument against the inclusion of Survivor 49 players is an extension of the first. It is absolutely baffling that a season called Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans cast two players fans haven’t even got to weigh in on yet. While fans knew that they weren’t given any control over Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans’ cast, at the very least the show’s producers should have only included players that fans had already seen play at least once.
The final reason why Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans shouldn’t feature any Survivor 49 players is because of the realities of the internet. When Jeff announced the cast of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans, he didn’t name the Survivor 49 players. However, before Jeff made that announcement, the cast for Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans had already been leaked online. Since every player Jeff announced was included in that leak, it seems extremely clear that the report was accurate. Since that leak named the Survivor 49 players who reportedly will be part of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans, it is a spoiler that they will leave a mark on their first season.
