New insights have emerged regarding the tragic passing of Food Network star Anne Burrell.
A report from the New York Police Department, accessed by People, includes statements from an individual identified as “married to Anne,” believed to be her husband, Stuart Claxton. According to this person, Burrell had never previously attempted or spoken about suicide. He also noted that he had not seen any behavior suggesting she would take such an action.
The individual, assumed to be Claxton, mentioned that Burrell had used cocaine in the past, but it had been several years since, and she did not have any known medical conditions.

Authorities uncovered a note with indications of suicidal thoughts, along with journals echoing similar sentiments, in the main bedroom of Burrell’s Brooklyn home following her death on June 17, 2025, according to People. The note was reportedly dated on the day of her death.
Claxton reportedly found Burrell in the bathroom, surrounded by numerous over-the-counter pills. When attempts to wake her by shaking and slapping her face failed, he promptly called 911.
The professional chef’s death was officially ruled a suicide by the New York city medical examiner’s office and they listed her specific cause of death at the age of 55 as “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.”
