Former Bachelorette Rachel Recchia is reflecting on undergoing recent physical and emotional changes.
In an Instagram Q&A on Tuesday, July 29, Recchia, 29, replied to a user who asked what her “weight loss routine” is.
“I want to address this because the comments I’ve received are a reminder of how little we often know about what someone is really going through,” she wrote. “Everyone has seen a very small part of my life through a lens. I am constantly compared to a version of myself from a short time when, truthfully, I was really struggling.”
She continued, “Toward the end of last year, I also faced health issues that impacted my body in ways I couldn’t control. Today I’m in a healthier place, both physically and emotionally. This is the last time I’ll speak on it, love you all.”
Bachelor Nation met Recchia when she vied for the affections of Clayton Echard on season 26 of The Bachelor in 2022. Recchia was later named colead of The Bachelorette season 19 alongside Gabby Windey, where Recchia accepted a proposal from Tino Franco. The pair called off their engagement after Franco admitted he kissed another girl. She went on to appear on Bachelor in Paradise season 9, but ended the show single.
Before the spinoff show aired, Recchia revealed that she underwent a breast reduction and was “totally calm” the morning of the surgery.
“I made my first appointment to find out more about breast reduction surgery when I was 17 years old. Ten years and a Bachelorette starring role later, at the age of 27, I finally did it,” Recchia wrote for Today at the time. “I was ready. I had waited years for this. And the moment I opened my eyes and got off the table, I knew my life had changed — for the better. My body felt different. Lighter. For the first time in over a decade, I didn’t have back pain (and I haven’t since).”
Recchia noted that her experience on the reality TV show made her desire to get the procedure feel “more urgent.”
“Being able to get this life-altering surgery was a privilege,” she wrote. “I decided to post about my journey on social media because, growing up, I never heard anyone talk about this procedure, and I felt so defeated by my body. Still, I was scared to hit post, thinking people would drag me for getting work done.”
Recchia continued, “I’ve always been transparent about the other cosmetic work I’ve done, like fillers and Botox. This is no different. I’m supportive of women who want to change something to make themselves happy, even if it is only aesthetic. If it improves your life and well-being and happiness, I’m 100 percent behind that.”
Recchia is set to appear alongside Echard on season 3 of Perfect Match, with the first six episodes premiering on Netflix August 1. The remaining episodes will drop weekly through the August 15 finale.
