Former Top Gear host Freddie Flintoff has revealed his healed face more than two years after his horror car crash. In December 2022, Freddie left the show after he was hospitalised following a car accident during filming at a test track in Surrey. The former England cricketer suffered serious injuries when his vehicle flipped and slid along a track. Freddie sustained broken ribs and horrific facial injuries as a result, and he was later deemed “lucky to be alive” after the collision.

In March 2023, the BBC apologised to Flintoff for the mishap and settled the incident last year with a compensation package reportedly worth a colossal £9 million.

The TV star has now shown his face after his facial injuries have improved. The 47-year-old has announced a new Disney+ documentary, which will explore the serious impact the car crash had on his life.

Flintoff had been a presenter on BBC One’s iconic series Top Gear since 2019, sharing the stage with Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris. However, post-accident, the show faced cancellation.

The former cricketer revealed that he was housebound for months following the crash, “crying every two minutes” for weeks, and plagued by flashbacks and nightmares of the near-death experience.

During an episode of Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams on Tour on the BBC, the sports star shared a home video taken at the height of his recovery. The video shows his facial injuries at their worst and his emotional state.

In the video, a visibly shaken Freddie tells the camera: “Week and a half after my accident. Genuinely should not be here after what happened. This is going to be a long road back and I have only just started and I am struggling already. I need help. I really am not the best at asking for it. I need to stop crying every two minutes.”

Freddie’s new documentary on Disney+ will be a 90-minute film about the star’s cricket career and how the crash impacted his life.

Speaking about the film, he said, “Looking back on the highs and the lows, including the challenges I’ve faced since my accident, has been a real reminder of why my career in the sport has meant so much.”

Flintoff will premiere on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland on Friday 25th April.
