Freddie Mercury's heartbreaking plea to daughter who was kept secret for 48 years

Queen frontman Freddie Mercury’s daughter has been revealed in a shocking new biography. The book, Love, Freddie, reveals Freddie had a child who was accidentally conceived during a fling with the wife of a close friend in 1976. The only people who knew of his daughter’s existence were his family, his lover Mary Austin, and the rest of the Queen band members. His daughter is now 48, a medical professional and a mother, and spoke about her secret parentage to biographer Lesley-Ann Jones, as she revealed Freddie’s 17 volumes of journals which she kept a secret.

It has been estimated that musician Freddie penned over 555,000 words in 15 years, and he begged his daughter not to read the most graphic excerpts until she was 25 after gifting them to her. He said to have wanted the more shocking details of his reckless lifestyle away from his daughter until she was an adult, perhaps fearing it would change her opinion of him.

Jones has said to Daily Mail that his child has promised she will burn the diaries if anyone ever tried to claim ownership of them.

Revealing the reason why she has decided to share them, Freddie’s daughter said: “After more than three decades of lies, speculation and distortion, it is time to let Freddie speak,’ she says. ‘Those who have been aware of my existence kept his greatest secret out of loyalty to Freddie. That I choose to reveal myself in my own midlife is my decision and mine alone. I have not, at any point, been coerced into doing this.

“He entrusted his collection of private notebooks to me, his only child and his next of kin, the written record of his private thoughts, memories and feelings about everything he had experienced.

“His gift to me was our secret. Although those who lived with him and shared his life knew of the existence of the notebooks, none of them knew, after his death, what had become of them.

“His family, fellow band members, closest friends, associates and management have had no idea until now that he gave them to me as a present.”

She added that Freddie was a “intensely private” man, known for rarely giving interviews, adding: “Everyone else . . . they knew only what Freddie wanted them to know. Which wasn’t much.”
