“Cuffs,” a captivating police drama that delves into the daily lives of officers in Brighton and Sussex, has now made its way to Netflix, securing its place among the platform’s classic dramas. Originally broadcast on BBC One in 2015, the series left its audience disappointed when it was abruptly cancelled after just one season.

The cancellation sparked a wave of discontent among the show’s cast, leading to a petition aimed at convincing the BBC to revive the series. Unfortunately, these efforts did not change the network’s decision.

In the series, Alex Carter brings to life the character of PC Lino Moretti, an officer who, though not in peak physical condition, is deeply proud of his Italian heritage. Carter, aged 43 and from Oldham, is widely recognized for his performances as Jamie Hope in “Emmerdale” and Lee Hunter in “Hollyoaks.”

Carter shares a family connection to the music world through his brother Bruce, a member of the Manchester-based band The Whip. Both brothers attended the Blue Coat School in Oldham. Bruce helped establish The Whip, a rock band that gained significant attention.

Their music found a wider audience when one of The Whip’s tracks was featured on the FIFA 09 video game soundtrack by EA Sports. Additionally, their song “Trash” received national exposure through a television advertisement for Coors Light Beer.

Outside of acting, Alex Carter hosted the Saturday afternoon sports programme Latics Live on The Revolution between 2008 and 2011, being a lifelong supporter of Oldham Athletic A. F. C.

In the early 2000s, he joined the cast of Hollyoaks as Lee Hunter, remaining on the show for four years before his character departed to embark on a world tour.

Carter revealed his intention to depart the soap in 2005 “to have more free time”, but following a five-year break, his character made a comeback.

He became part of Emmerdale in 2006 as Jamie Hope – the eldest offspring of the well-established character Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw).

In 2010 he declared he was departing the soap after four years, seeking to pursue fresh opportunities.

He explained to BBC 6 Music at the time: “I’m getting thoroughly depressed because I’m in work every day for about four hours.

“It’s like they’re teasing me because I’m leaving and I’ve got one line. I’m in work every day. It’s driving me mental.”

His most recent role was portraying Jeff in the comedy series So Awkward Academy.
