After a break spanning four years, “Euphoria” is making its much-anticipated return.
The series, which catapulted a number of Gen-Z actors like Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney into the spotlight, premieres its third and concluding season tonight, April 12.
This new season kicks off with a leap forward in time by five years, moving the characters beyond their high school years. Although HBO’s official synopsis remains cryptic, mentioning only that it follows “a group of childhood friends grappling with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption, and the problem of evil,” various teasers have offered glimpses into how the characters’ lives have evolved.
Rue, portrayed by Zendaya, is still on her path to sobriety, while Cassie, played by Sweeney, and Nate, played by Elordi, are adapting to life in the suburbs. Meanwhile, Jules, played by Hunter Schaefer, is pursuing art school, and both Maddy, played by Alexa Demie, and Lexi, played by Maude Apatow, have embarked on careers in Hollywood.
In her review of the new season, Page Six TV reporter Lauren Sarner describes the long-awaited return as “an off-the-rails roller coaster of insanity,” pointing out that “those seeking narrative coherence and character consistency might find Season 3 lacking.”
