Concerns are swirling around Gisele Bündchen’s family regarding her recent decision to marry Joaquim Valente, her jiu-jitsu instructor and father of her child. The family’s primary worry is that she may not have approached this commitment with enough caution, particularly considering her substantial wealth.
According to a source who spoke with Page Six, “Her family warned her against marrying a man without significant financial means when she herself is worth millions.” This concern stems from the vast difference in their financial standings, which could pose challenges in their union.
Joaquim Valente, despite being well-regarded in his own right with a clientele of celebrities and running an academy in Miami with his brothers, operates in a vastly different sphere compared to Bündchen’s level of fame and fortune. The supermodel, who hails from Brazil, has been recognized multiple times as the highest-paid in her field and reportedly boasts a fortune of $400 million, as cited by celebritynetworth.com.
The family suggested that Bündchen consider simply living with Valente instead of legally tying the knot. However, influenced by Valente’s wishes and her own traditional values, Bündchen felt that marriage was the right step, especially since they have a child together, the source further elaborates.
“Her family told her to just live with him,” says our source. “But between Valente‘s pressure and her being a traditionalist, she felt since they have a child, they might as well marry.”
The pair welcomed a son in February and — as exclusively reported by Page Six — tied the knot in a quiet ceremony in November.
A source told us at the time that Valente was, “thrilled they finally tied the knot after having a kid together.”
We hear the couple has a prenup, but it’s not the black-belt level protection her family would’ve wanted.
“There is a prenup, but with some loopholes that mean if they divorce there will be a financial settlement for him,” says our source.
In 2000, Bündchen signed the biggest modeling contract in history at the time with a massive $25 million, five-year deal with Victoria’s Secret. Besides strutting the runway, she also did campaigns for Chanel, Pantene, Under Armour, Apple, IWC and more. She also had ownership in lingerie and sandal lines.
Bündchen has a big family that she’s close with, including her father, Vladir, and five sisters Raquel, Graziela, Gabriela, Rafaela and (fraternal twin) Patricia.
“My family is everything to me and my sisters are my best friends even if sometimes we disagree,” Gisele told People in May 2023.
Bündchen’s mother Vânia died in January 2024 at the age of 75 after battling cancer.
Bündchen divorced football star Tom Brady in 2022. They share kids Benjamin, 16, and Vivian, 13.
Reps for Bündchen and Valente did not respond to request for comment.
