Goldie Hawn’s life, marked by personal tragedies, has often stirred concern among her fans. The recent passing of her close friend, Diane Keaton, has intensified these feelings. Hawn and Keaton, co-stars in “The First Wives Club,” shared a deep bond that lasted for decades. They even became neighbors, which makes Keaton’s death particularly hard for Hawn. Amidst this sorrow, Goldie’s latest public appearance has sparked controversy for unexpected reasons. Though the loss of her long-time friend is profoundly affecting, it was her recent outing with her son, Oliver Hudson, that caught the public’s attention for different reasons.
Goldie and Oliver attended the Make-A-Wish Foundation Gala, where she accepted the Power of A Wish Award. Before the event, the mother-son duo posed for photos on the red carpet. Hawn appeared cheerful, smiling broadly as she stood by Oliver’s side. The “Bird on a Wire” actress even encouraged Oliver to join in a playful pose, extending their legs towards the cameras.
This display of exuberance did not sit well with everyone. One social media user on X, previously known as Twitter, remarked, “Does she always feel the need to hug the camera & upstage her children? Geez!” Another commented on their personal impression of Hawn from the late ’60s, tweeting, “I first met Goldie in 1968. She is truly a sadly shallow individual.” Meanwhile, a third user voiced concern for Hawn’s well-being, writing, “Goodness, I hope she doesn’t fall. I love her so much for all the laughs.” Despite the mixed reactions online, Hawn seemed unfazed during the event.
Goldie Hawn attended the Make-A-Wish Foundation Gala in Los Angeles with a sense of pride. The gala aims to raise funds to fulfill the wishes of children dealing with serious illnesses. In an interview with ABC 7, Goldie emphasized the importance of focusing on children’s mental health and happiness. “We all have to have compassion for everyone on the planet,” she stated. “We’ve got children who are in bed suffering, and they need to be happy too. The whole idea is to bring more joy to our children, where they basically have been living with these illnesses.” Hawn underscored the importance of joy for the children supported by Make-A-Wish, saying, “So I think it’s important to bring joy to all children, and tonight, it’s about bringing joy to our special children.”
In a separate interview with E! News, Oliver Hudson praised his mother when discussing how their family has remained grounded despite their privileged lifestyle. “It starts within the four walls of your home,” Oliver explained. “It doesn’t matter what any outside perspective is, how famous you are, how much money you have. When it’s just you and your family is what really matters.” He added, “Now I can pass that along to my babies as well, taking from what Katie and I, and Wyatt in Boston, have learned as children.”
However, Goldie’s giddy nature rubbed fans the wrong way, with one on X, formerly known as Twitter, commenting: “Does she always feel the need to hug the camera & upstage her children? Geez!” A second claimed they were unimpressed when meeting Hawn as a rising star back in the late ’60s. “I first met Goldie in 1968. She is truly a sadly shallow individual,” they tweeted. Meanwhile, a third expressed concern over Goldie’s safety, writing, “Goodness, I hope she doesn’t fall. I love her so much for all the laughs.” Fortunately, Goldie didn’t allow the internet’s perception to ruin her night.
