Graham Norton has recently shared a significant health update following a complete shoulder replacement surgery earlier this year. The esteemed presenter, now 62, spent several months recuperating with regular physiotherapy sessions. During this recovery time, he experienced weight gain attributed to prolonged inactivity. Now, back on track, Graham is fit enough to enjoy his favorite sport, cycling, once again.

The talk show luminary revealed, “I may have mentioned my complete shoulder replacement. Thankfully, the healing has gone well, and I’m back on my bike.” While discussing his weight gain on the Wanging On podcast with Maria McErlane, actress Maria quipped, “I’m so relieved because you got so fat,” to which Graham humorously responded, “I know. Huge! I ballooned.” Reflecting on his recovery journey, he also noted that the shoulder pain has “completely vanished,” allowing him to swim daily in the bay near his Irish home over the summer.

Earlier this year, Graham openly discussed confronting his fears about mortality prior to undergoing surgery.

In a heartfelt admission, he recalled, “I was sitting in the hospital room, not on any medication yet, before being taken down. Dressed in the gown and those funny slippers, I felt incredibly vulnerable. Facing your own mortality brings such emotions. I didn’t expect to feel as emotional as I did in that moment.”

“I did feel quite emotional. I knew I would, but you are facing your own mortality. You just feel quite vulnerable in that moment. I was surprised I got as totes emosh as I did.”

As for the gritty details of his surgery, the host boasted: “I now have a young bit of me. My shoulder’s brand new. Sadly, there was no old shoulder left. It was all just ground down.

“One bit is plastic, it is a ball and socket, so one bit is now plastic, and [one] bit is porcelain but with a little bit of titanium stuck into the bone and a big, long cut.”

Although Graham has kept the cause of his shoulder replacement under wraps, this is the first time the star has been hospitalised.

Earlier this year, he revealed that after hosting the BAFTA TV Awards in 2002, the 62-year-old was put on “horse tranquillisers pain-killing medication” after suffering a horrific fall.

After returning home from the glitzy event, Graham tumbled down the stairs and painfully broke two ribs. At the time, as a result of his injury, Graham was forced to pull out of his role in the West End show La Cage Aux Folles, where he had been portraying drag queen Albin.
