In October 2019, Tina Turner made a dazzling appearance on the red carpet for the Broadway premiere of “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.” Her radiant smile lit up the event, captured in a memorable photograph where Oprah Winfrey stood affectionately behind her. More images shared by The Mirror depicted Turner walking arm in arm with her second husband, Erwin Bach, while Winfrey accompanied them. Despite being retired for several years, Turner’s joyous presence revealed her enduring appreciation for the public life she once led.

This event would mark the final industry appearance for the iconic singer.

Turner, renowned as one of the most celebrated entertainers, endured a life marked by profound challenges. Her story was shadowed by illness and the harrowing abuse from her first husband and musical partner, Ike Turner. Yet, her later years offered a brighter chapter, highlighted by her spectacular success in mid-life and the deep love she found with her second husband, Erwin Bach. These experiences, among others, were poignantly captured in “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical,” a production she helped shape.

In reflecting on the New York debut of the musical, which first graced London’s West End, Turner expressed her motivation for sharing her life story on stage. “It’s really important to me to have the chance to share my full story,” she stated, as reported by Best Classic Bands. She added, “This musical is not about my stardom. It is about the journey I took to get there. Each night I want audiences to take away from the theater that you can turn poison into medicine.” She achieved that goal beautifully.

Tina Turner was heavily involved in the stage show about her life

The musical enjoyed a successful three-year run on Broadway, earning critical acclaim and numerous Tony Award nominations. Notably, Adrienne Warren, who brought Turner’s story to life, won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical in 2020.

The show, which ran on Broadway for three years, was a critical success. In addition to garnering a slew of Tony Awards nominations, Adrienne Warren, who portrayed the fictional version of Tina, won best leading actress in a musical on Broadway in 2020.
