Heidi Klum Returns To 'Project Runway' And Reveals Why She Reprised Her Judging Role

Heidi Klum is no stranger to reality TV, but her recent project is particularly close to her heart. Klum has signed on for Project Runway Season 21, which will premiere on July 31 and air on Freeform, Disney+, and Hulu. This move marks her return to the show after leaving in 2018, following 16 seasons (she hosted the series from 2004 to 2017).

Klum recently shared her thoughts on her decision and why it felt right. “It’s felt like coming home, really like coming home,” she told People in an interview on May 26. It was a hosting gig that earned her multiple nominations for Emmy awards, including a win in 2013 alongside Tim Gunn, but what does Klum hope to achieve this time around?

Klum has made it clear that her work on Project Runway is meaningful to her, and she left America’s Got Talent, where she served as a judge (she has since been replaced by former Spice Girl Mel B for Season 20). But even after a hiatus, returning to Project Runway has felt natural.

“I can do it with my eyes closed, even though I’m judging clothes, so I have to have my eyes open, but I can do it with my eyes closed,” Klum told People in a recent interview. “I just love fashion so much, and I love how interested they are and how they’re champing at the bit to get a spot in the fashion industry. So, it’s so fun to give them a platform to show what they can do.”

What Do We Know About ‘Project Runway’ Season 21?

A teaser for the upcoming Project Runway season has been released, in which Klum states: “I’m back, and it’s good to be home.” The short clip ends with her saying, “Get in, or you’re out.” Fans have reacted to the clip, sharing their excitement. “I’m genuinely excited that Heidi Klum is returning to Project Runway! She brings a unique perspective that blends sexiness with self-confidence,” a fan wrote. “CANNOT WAIT FINALLY ITS BACK,” another person wrote.

In addition to the information about when Project Runway Season 21 will air, we also know Klum will host and judge the season and be joined by fellow judges Nina Garcia, Michael Kors, and Law Roach. Fashion designer and former Project Runway winner Christian Siriano will serve as a mentor to the contestants.

When Klum left the show in 2017, she released an emotional statement about her reasons. “After 16 incredible seasons, I am saying ‘Auf Wiedersehen’ to Project Runway, a show that I was honored to host and help create. I am incredibly proud of the show, and it will always have a special place in my heart,” she said, per People. “I am so appreciative of the dedicated fans, and most of all, I am grateful that we could shine a light on creativity and help launch so many talented designers’ careers.”

At the time, Klum and Gunn also announced the creation of their new project, Making the Cut, which aired for three seasons.
