Gemma Arterton has revealed she gave birth to her first child in December.
The surprise birth announcement followed hot on the heels of the actress’ pregnancy reveal, which came back in November.
Gemma, famed for her Bond girl role and big screen appearances in the likes of St Trinian’s, had managed to keep her big news underwraps for eight months before the red carpet appearance.
Her baby boy, born just before Christmas, is the first child for the star and her actor husband Rory Keenan, who starred in Peaky Blinders.
So how did the movie star manage to keep the biggest role of her life to herself?

The actress, 37, announced her pregnancy by displaying her baby bump at the Raindance Film Festival awards in November.
A month previously rumours had swirled she was expecting after pictures captured her happily caressing her rounded stomach while chatting to a friend in London.
Before those snaps, Gemma, who isn’t on social media, had been off the radar since May 2022, when she made a red carpet appearance in London for Sky.
In between May and October work kept the star busy and out of the limelight – she spent much of last summer and the lead-up to her birth shooting her upcoming movie The Critic.
The period thriller starring Ian McKellen and Mark Strong started filming in London in June and wrapped late last year in time for a 2023 release date.
After confirming her pregnancy in her first public appearance in months in November, and stepping out with her husband days later, Gemma once again retreated from the spotlight to focus on the birth.
She was back out and about this week on the promo trail for her new Sky series Funny Woman, where she plays a beauty queen seeking TV fame.

And it was her appearance on Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 Breakfast Show where she chose to reveal the exciting news of her son’s birth.

‘We are very very happy, he was born just before Christmas. A little Christmas elf’ Gemma gushed.
Next up Gemma, who looked incredible for her day at work in a pink satin mini dress and matching coat, stopped by ITV’s This Morning where she revealed that her son is seven weeks old.
The actress admitted ‘a bit more sleep would be nice’ but said she was loving her new role.
‘[He’s] seven weeks, thank you so much!’ she told the show. ‘Totally smitten and love love being a mummy. I just love it. It’s great.’
Gemma, who tied the knot with Peaky Blinders star Rory in a secret ceremony in 2019 – said in previous interviews that she was unsure about having children.
‘I don’t think you can ever plan the right, exact time,’ she told The Times in 2013.
‘I don’t feel ready for kids because I want to know that I can come back and still be valuable to the industry.’
‘That’s only going to happen when I feel a little bit more accomplished… or at least when I’ve accomplished something of which I’m proud.’
