Ray J’s estranged wife, Princess Love, has recently made changes to a protective order originally set against him, amid his ongoing health struggles.
According to a report by Page Six on Saturday, January 31, a judge approved modifications the day before to an existing protective order. This order had previously restricted Ray J, aged 45, from visiting the couple’s two children — Melody, 7, and Epik, 6. It’s worth noting that Princess Love, 41, initiated divorce proceedings against Ray J for the fourth time in 2024.
Ray J’s attorney informed the outlet that “the restraining order was modified to allow Ray J to have unlimited contact with his children and wife.”
During the hearing, Princess Love, along with Ray J’s mother, Sonja Norwood, provided testimony. Princess Love expressed that the children “miss their father,” underscoring the emotional strain on the family.
Currently, Ray J is receiving treatment for a severe pneumonia case in a Las Vegas hospital. The R&B singer, who is 44, was admitted on Tuesday, January 6, with symptoms of pneumonia and heart pains, as reported by TMZ on Wednesday, January 7. This information came from a source close to Ray J, highlighting the seriousness of his condition.
“The children have been asking about him. They are worried about his health issues,” she reportedly said. “I would like them to see their father. They would not be in any danger.”
After the hearing at the San Fernando, Los Angeles, courthouse, Ray J was pictured with Princess Love. He wore a gray suit while she donned a beige trench coat.
Months before the hearing, Ray J was arrested in November 2025 for allegedly threatening Princess Love. TMZ reported that he said he had “the worst Thanksgiving in the f***ing world” before allegedly pulling a gun on Princess Love in a livestream video.
He denied the allegation in December 2025, telling TMZ he “would never point a gun at anybody, including Princess Love.” Ray J was released on $50,000 bail and charged with six misdemeanor offenses by the Los Angeles City Attorney, per Fox LA.

In January, Ray J was reportedly admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and heart pains. (The Mayo Clinic refers to pneumonia as an infection that can affect the lungs, often caused by a viral or bacterial infection.)
TMZ reported that he previously suffered from the illness in 2021 and “thought he could die.” Us Weekly reached out to representatives for Ray J at the time for comment.
Later that month, Ray J shared in a social media video that he doesn’t have long to live. “2027 is definitely a wrap for me,” Ray J said on Tuesday, January 27. “That’s what they say.”
In the background of the clip, a friend told Ray J not to “say that,” adding “F*** the doctor.” Ray J, however, doubled down on the sentiment.

“I shouldn’t have went this hard, bro,” Ray J said. “My baby mama gonna be straight, my kids gonna be straight. If they wanna spend all the money, they can spend it. I did my part here. And damn, when it’s all done, burn me, don’t bury me.”
Ray J went on to share his appreciation for his parents and sister Brandy for helping him with doctor visits and medical bills “for the rest of the year.”
While Ray J did not offer more insight into his health, he shared in a separate social media video on January 25 that he “almost died.”
“My heart is only beating, like, 25 percent,” he said. “But as long as I stay focused and stay on the right path, then everything will be all right, so thank you for all your prayers.”
In an interview with TMZ on Thursday, January 29, Ray J went on to explain that his heart is only beating at 60 percent and “half of his heart has turned black,” according to his doctors.
Ray J noted that he had been put on several cholesterol medications and some for people who are at “high risk” of heart failure.
